Aika aikaansa kutakin. Mutta juuri nyt on oikea hetki julkaista Kalmanakka. Tämä olut on odottanut useamman kuunkierron julkaisuaan. Se on olut, joka liikkuu aikakausien rajamailla, kulkien jossain menneen ja tulevan välimaastossa – yhdistellen pehmeitä puolia barley winestä ja jyrkempiä West Coast IPAsta. Ei siis todellakaan se tavallisin barley wine. Kalmanakka on ehdottomasti jykevä, mutta ei jäykkä. Karamellimaltaiden pehmeä makeus ja petollinen syvyys vaihtuu nopeasti ikeniä lävistäviin havunneulasiin ja raastavaan greippisyyteen.

9,5% vahvuutta sisältävä olut saattaa toki harhauttaa sinut hetkeksi, mutta varohan – prosenttiensa puolesta Kalmanakka voi viedä sinut transsiin. Kun aikasi koittaa, et voi enää perääntyä.

Tap at Myslíš?, Prague, with Gurthnar. Hazy orange-ambwr body, thick off-white head, fairly lasting. Oxidation on dried stone fruit, plums, low perfumey alcohol. Lean dry caramel and dried stone fruit taste, low alcohol presence really, ending dry and slightly astringent, bit minerally. Not the best, but a solid take!

Med-full body, med carbo, a bit too much here maybe. Med warmth rounding it, not boozy tho. Med-high sweet, med-light bitter. Fully malty, lots of toasted, medium raisins, caramelly, light toffee. Feels med-light oxidated, but works. Good, almost very.

Smell of malt, some caramel. Copper colour, high off-white head. Aroma of malt, pine, boozy sweetness, some citrus and candy. Lively carbon. Sweet. Interesting brew.

Copper colour, tiny off-white head. Malty nose with some rustic hops. Medium-bodied. Malts, hops and alcohol. Ok. ZincFest 2025.

Pours clear orange with a lacing white head. Aroma: wood barrels, raisins, sugar and perfume. Taste: perfumey malts, wood barrels, sugar and raisins. Sweet palate.

MBCC. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity and wood. Flavor is quite sweet. Sweet finish with warming alcohol. 240525

On tap at Fermentoren, pours a clear dull amber with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of oxidation, bready malt, toffee, and a touch of fruitiness. Flavour is rather harsh, with bready caramel, alcohol, and some perfumey notes. Poor balance and quite harsh fumes. This needs work.
