A burly export stout loaded with our bourbon barrel-aged coffee beans. We’ve had great success with Black House & Monsters’ Park dosed with barrel-aged coffee, but we wanted to design a beer from scratch specifically to feature these beans. Full-bodied and a touch sweet, City of the Dead will be explosively aromatic and saturated with barrel-aged coffee character.

Tap. Darkest brown color with beige head. Aroma is coffee ground, earthy, chocolate, nutty, vanilla. Taste is earthy, coffee ground again, some green bell peppers at first, but they disappear quickly. Lots of sweetish chocolate and nuts and vanilla as well. Silky mouthfeel with fine-bubbled perfect carbonation, dry finish. Extremely tasty. What a crazy idea, to barrel age the coffee beans...

Shared from bottle at Maakun’s. Thanks svartvit! Deep roasted chocolate malts, dense coffee roast and berry fruitiness, mocha. Big sweet and moderate bitter. Over medium body and very slick soft feel. Soft carbonation. Nice sweet and roasty.

Bottle shared thanks to svartvit. Black with nice creamy beige head. Quite some coffee, sweet red fruits, soft milk chocolate, roasted malts, light vanilla wood, soft chalky. Surprisingly fruity and complex, has some lovely aromas. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with a bit slick dry feel.

Bottle, 13C. Dark brown with a cm of light tan head that’s soon a coat. Aroma of sweetened coffee, some floaty vanilla, boiled lemon and spirit notes creep up to match the initially dominant (nice) coffee. Got more intriguing the longer it sat. Very light bodied - would be for a 5% stout really. Lowish carbonation. Lots going on - sweet chocolate, quite firm citrus tinged bitterness, vanilla, woody, even a little astringency. Interesting, but I wish the stout underpinned things a little more clearly.

Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is zesty sweet sugary malt, light coffee. The flavour is moderate to light sweet with a dry, roasty, liqoourice, sweet malt, dark chocolate, dry coffee, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Pour is a complete black with a large tan head. Aroma is a decent roasted char with some coffee. I did not get any bourbon. Flavor is a good roasted/char malt with a minor coffee and hello bourbon barrel there you are. This was very roasty and char malt more than anything. The coffee beans aged In bourbon barrels ads the finishing touches to this beer. I’m not a big cigar smoker but this beer would be perfect with a light cigar.

Sampled from the tap at the Lomaland location. Pours near black with a light tan head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has roasted malts and dark grains with a decent amount of coffee supporting. Flavor starts with dark grains but has a strong growing coffee presence with a good amount of roasted malts supporting.

Bottle from Safeway in Bend. Near black pour, small bubbly head. Roast grains and coffee on the aroma. Taste adds a bit of chocolate and sweetness, drying bitterness. Nice mouth feel, lingering flavors.

650ml bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown almost black with a small, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces nicely. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, bourbon, coffee, vanilla and a hint of oak with a dry, mildly bitter finish. Medium body with a rich, creamy, oily texture and soft carbonation. Delicious, a very nice stout.
