The Ben Nevis edition in this series of second generation Black Damnations by Struise, so Black Albert aged on Ben Nevis whisky barrels. Bottle from Fontana in Sint-Niklaas, shared with Goedele. Medium thick, creamy, brownish beige mocha ice-coloured head, opening with some islands left in the middle; black robe with not much more than one millimetre of lightly hazy, burgundy colour off the edge. Predictably whisky-ridden Black Albert nose: lots of black chocolate and clear Ben Nevis whisky, leather, black peppercorns, freshly made espresso, toasted walnuts, mocha, pipe tobacco, bayleaf, soy sauce, haemoglobin, toffee, dry peat, fresh paint. Candied dates, dried banana, fig sweetness in the onset with soy sauce-like umami woven through, bit sticky, soft carb as announced on the label, with the usual thick, viscous, oily body. Walnutty, thickly toffeeish and bitter-chocolatey malts with a notably blood-like ‘haemoglobin iron’ edge, lots of toasty and coffeeish black-bitterness in the end heated by clearly whisky-flavoured alcohol with a soft peaty touch, tad powdery, quite intense with lingering bayleaf, porcini and vague liquorish aspects. Long, complex, intense and pleasantly warming, another great Black Damnation variant, one of the better ones in this series for me.

Draught @ TCBW’18. Rated on 5.5.2018
Aroma is surprisingly mild with soy and licorice. Flavour has salmiac, soy sauce and salty licorice. Hides the high ABV pretty well.

Celebrating new year 2018 as well as the conclusion of a pretty exciting 2017. pitch dark, smooth brown head. aroma of wood, dark dried fruits, roasted malts. quite intense, but not thick and oatsy. flavor is roasted malts, fainter dark dried fruits, fainter honey, tons of bitter wood, some charred wood, some whiskey, quite dry, not that sweet, and the woody bitterness is way big. I like it when stouts don't have tons of coconut, this one has none, good. Disregarding the price, this is a very decent imperial stout. Buy it you are curious about wood barrelling and have ample money to spend. If on a budget, you can get lots more great beer for the price of one of these bottles.

Bottle. Black color with beige head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, vanilla, wood. Taste is chocolate, caramel, vanilla, creamy custard, wood sugar. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Good, but not convincing among these other bottles.
