A patriotic ale with fruity notes and a biscuit malt finish. Refreshing and easy drinking with delicate spice and a satisfying bite.

We use three different malts; Pale Ale, Crystal and Amber, with two hops; W.G.V and Bramling Cross to brew this most English of ales.

Cask at The Anchor, Digbeth, Birmingham. Poured a dark copper colour with a broken white head and some broken lace. The aroma is weak malt and a little stale. The flavour is medium to weak bitter, malty and with a smooth, slightly watery and a little metallic palate. Not a classic, but well drinkable.

[Cask at the Wadworth brewery] Amber, thick creamy head. Sweet toffee up front, then biscuits and orange leading to a slightly spicy bitterness in the finish. Reasonable bitter.

Cask @ The Abbey Inn, Kinloss 020512
Light caramel brown, clear, thin tight white head, some lacing
Aroma - light toasted malts, caramel malts, hint of cocoa powder
Taste - light roasted malts, light cocoa, osft earthy malts, soft yeast...quite yeasty, fruity malts, some cereals, quite complex.
Palate - soft carb, medium body, dryish palate. Finish as main flavour, dry, cereal biscuity malt finish
Overall - This is the best beer I’ve had from Wadworth. It’s a good traditional English bitter.

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the beer festival at the Marlow Donkey, Marlow, Bucks. Clear golden amber with thin cream head; fruity aroma with a whiff of sulphur and some underlying roasted malts; rather thinly bodied, but soft and fruity in the mouth with orange and blackcurrants; then a long dry smooth finish. Unfortunately, rather uninspiring overall.

50cl bottle from Tesco, Stevenage. An accidental 2500th rating - I’m away from home, so the the Fuller’s Vintage Ale I was saving will have to wait for the next significant milestone.

Pours deep amber with a tight cream head; malty aroma. soft in texture but with an astringent malty flavour; and an earthy finish with some herbal hops. Very pleasant.
