It’s a Rye IPA, kinda same same but different to our regular IPA, but we use 20% malted rye in the grist in addition to malted barley. Rye gives a rich nuttiness to the mouthfeel that complements the big hit of galaxy and cascade hops that follows.

On the nose it’s all fruity hops – tropical and zingy. The palate is full, bitter and rich – the rye helping out with this. It clocks in at 6.1

Big dirrrrty bomber shared at Taps beer bar, KL. It pours cloudy deep red-amber with a small yellow-white head. The nose is earthy, pine needles, citrus peel, sherbet, light caramel and toast. The taste is bitter, pine needles, resin, earth, breadth, orange muffin and light alcohol with a dry, citric finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Punchy and tasty, yet very drinkable.

From a 640ml bottle on 29/12/2013. Pours an opaque dark golden with a variable head. Has a mild hoppy aroma with some caramel in the mix. The flavour features lots of caramel and toffee malt. The hops are fruity and relatively firm but relatively modest by IPA standards. The dry rye is evident at the finish. Has a medium body and medium carbonation. Solid if not spectacular.

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear medium amber with a big white frothy head and broken lace. The aroma is rather malty with citrus notes. The flavour is medium bitter, a little spicy and malty with some floral notes on the palate and long into the aftertaste. A very tasty and refreshing beer. Perfect for a session.

(bottle) Poured cloudy amber with a big beige head. Wonderful hop aroma - floral and tropical fruity. Full bodied with excellent plentiful carbonation. The flavour strikes a lovely balance of interesting malts and hoppy bitterness. There’s tangy fruit at the start developing body and richness with a hint of spice leading to a good bitter finish. Overall an excellent and different beer giving an extra dimension to the typical hop-centred IPA.

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting head.Nose is pretyt fruity, with lots of peach, passion fruit and apricot. Underneath is spicy hints along with big caramel presence and toffee.Similar fruity flavours, but also showing a lot of malt, combining to create orange marmalade characters. Nice spicy, bready backing from the rye.Could use more carbonation.Lovely stuff!

Bottle, as Rare Breed Rye IPA, 6.1%ABV. Clear amber with a large off-white head. Muted aroma of bread, lychees, grapefruit, apricots. Oily mouthfeel. Taste is moderately sweet and much fruitier than suggested by the aroma: grapefruit, stone and some tropical fruits as well as bread. Bitter finish has an unusual spice note at the tip of the tongue. Interesting beer with lots going on.
