Med brown w loose head. Mellow, balanced smokey ale, with toasty, slightly caramelly malts like marzen.

A smoky aroma as advertised, but there’s also citrus, a little chocolate and some apricot. The flavour is quite sweet with some citrus and caramel. I’ve no idea what makes a good smoked beer, but it’s a nice beer - good body and length - even if it’s not quite my cup of tea.

Draught at Mrs Parmas, Melbourne. On July 25, 2013.As "3 Ravens Dark Smoke".Sweet, smoke, a bit roasted, cocoa taste. Medium mouthfeel, medium dry bitterness. Dry, grainy, slight roasted aftertaste. Sweet, smoked scent. Clear, dark brown color, off-white head.

(Tap) Cloudy brown with no head. Aroma is subtle with some smokiness. Light body and pleasantly fizzy. Flavour has a refreshingly light start which develops into a rich coffee, dark chocolate and smoky finish. Overall a very nice beer.

Cask at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Dark mahogany pour with little lacing. Light malty aroma. Smoked malty taste, but was expecting much more smoke than this. Perhaps I'm more used to the European smoked beers that come more heavily smoked. A nice ale that I would certainly drink again but not what I expected from the label. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Red-brown, a finger of light tan head. Nose has chocolate malt and some grass. Some savoury hints, but smoke is not obviously there for me. Taste is berry sweet and malty, with some ham notes. Smooth texture. Just a little bitterness at the end. A bit dull. [old rating 2.5] Head vanishes to a few wisps. This time I can smell plenty of smoke and there’s smoke in the dry finish too. Seems rather less sweet too - there’s more vanilla than chocolate this time. Not bad.
