Can I picked up at Lawsons. A surprisingly good looking beer - all shiny gold with a soapy head of foam. The aroma is quite strong but also weird - herbal, peppery, mint, citrus. It kind of reminds me of some kind of pungeant potpourri you use to keep away moths in your closet. Itβs got a nice medium to full body with a soft mouthfeel. The taste is weird like the aroma and continues with the same profile: pine, mothballs, sweet tarts, grapefruit, etc. Weird, this is definitely unique but not really a six-pack type of IPA. More a one and done or something you split with a buddy. What could I pair this with? Pesto gnocchi or a pine nut salad? An interesting experiment I suppose and kudos to Yo Ho for pushing boundaries. Itβs well made and experimental but not deserving a full scale production run.

Can from Lawson. Pours a clear gold with a quickly dissipating head. Big katsuo nose with brine and ikura-don notes. Herbal and bitter on the palate with a touch of orange peel. They do what they set out to do. Not that great though. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sorry Umami IPA on 20 Oct 2016 at 22:39 - Score: 6. Original review text: It's not awful. Lots of katsuo, ikura-don notes. Herbal and bitter finish.

Can. Harsh fruit nose, oh this has orange peel in it, and coriander! Was not expecting that. Stanky citrus, orange, grapefruit zest, light biscuit, some tropical fruit, coriander. Golden-orange with a fine head. There is a light touch of smokiness from the bonito, but really the orange peel takes over everything and really gets in the way. Crisp, high carbonation works, as does the bonito, but get rid of the orange peel and maybe the coriander too. It is over-used and harsh. Otherwise, the beer is a bit dull. And I really didnβt get all that much umami. (The Tamagawa sake I had next blew it away)
