As the name indicates, this beer is brewed with rye. But we used barley and a bit of wheat malt too. We did not only pick different grains, but also different degrees of roastedness. It resulted in a beautifully layered taste and a deep dark colour. To add even more complexity we used chips of oaken whisky barrels and had the beer suck up their aromas during the lagering stage.

The Rye Bock is a beautifully rich beer with a candy kinda quality and a toffee like taste.

0.33 l bottle from 'Mitra' (Den Bosch), 7.7% abv, best before September 2018. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and a bit fruity aroma of caramel, toasted nuts, some chocolate and hints of dark fruits. Moderately sweet, malty, slightly bitter, a bit roasty and a little fruity taste of caramel, toasted nuts, some chocolate, a touch of dark fruits and traces of oak, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly roasty and a little woody-dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice Bock, quite untypical by not being overly sweet and having a bit more complexity due to the whisky-soaked wood chips.

Opaque dark ruby brown colour, small but steady frothy beige head, light lacing. Aroma roasted malts, cocoa, candy sugar, dark fruits. Taste starts with somewhat coarse rye bitterness, middle part medium sweet and bitter, roasted malts, rye, dark bread. Roasty bittersweet aftertaste, spices, medium body, average carbonation. A rough and sturdy bock, overall very nice.

From tap @ the brewery. Very dark brown color with a reddish hue. Steady, rocky, light beige head. Aroma’s of toast, light vegetal, light wood. Retronasal it’s sweetish, toasted, woody, light vegetal. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted. Medium bodied, I expected it to be fuller from the rye. Quite high carbonation. Long finish, dry, roasted, moderate bitter. The aroma wasn’t very promising, but it turned out OK.
