Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

From a bottle, excited to try this since wit biers are some of my faves. Pour is hazy vanilla yella. Nice friendly easy beery nose. Friendly, easy civilized attitude. Not bad, good level of co2 as well. Mild, friendly and nice. Not real yummy bit it is a good example of what real beer should be like, not some stupid ass straight hopped bomb, a kind reminder of the roots of beer. Not sure I would call this sour but it does have a hint of tartness about it that is greatly appreciated. Good overall beer tasting experience, thanks NB. Could do a sixer of these.

From Jul 2007

Purchased at Wilbur's Liquors in Ft Collins for US$7.49 a 6 Pack.

It pours from 12oz bottle(best by..it looks like 30 10 07) a hazy very pale straw-yellow with a large head of foam that stays for the entire session as a solid layer with plenty of lacing.

The smell has notes of lemon and yeast and there's some spice there as well. Nice nose.

The taste on first sip is big on the yeast and wheat and lemon is very nicely done. Further sips in and I'm getting some pepper and coriander and orange(yeah, it says that on the label but it's spot on) and I think it's very tasty. Great brew for the summer and I'm going to enjoy drinking the rest of this 6 pack.

Further sips in and the flavours are still holding up and keeping my interest. Another Organic beer that I like?? Who'd have thunk? Seriously, I think New Belgium has done very well with this brew and at under 5%abv, I'd session on it if it was available locally.

The finish has a nice spicy and lemony kick to it and it makes me want to take further sips. Yep, pretty darned drinkable. An above average Wit in my book....

Bottle. A- Cloves, coriander, spices, wheat. A- Yellow color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Coriander, spices, subtle citrus, wheat. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, spiced finish. O- An overly spiced wit for sure. Maybe a bit heavy on the coriander. Not too bad. Pretty typical for the style.

$1.59 Bottle from Whole Foods, CHO. Pours pale golden with a tiny white head. Aroma of lemongrass, minor spice, minor vegetation (perhaps slightly rotten). Taste is lemongrass, bread, light clove, earth, yeast, bubblegum. It’s inoffensive.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 10/9/2016. Pours hazy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange peel, pear, apple, coriander, pepper, clove, wheat, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, balance, and solid robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/grainy mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a very good witbier. All around good complexity, balance, and solid robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

The color of urine when you have a bladder infection, very odd for a beer. Aroma of lemon zest. Taste is reminiscent of a sour limoncello, very refreshing. Tasty, but simple, everything revolves around the lemon theme.
