Bottle. Pours clear copper with a thin, white head. Aroma holds some mellow maltiness and light fruitiness. Flavor starts sweet, bready, then gives way to an earthy, bitter finish. Medium in body and well carbonated. A pretty strong example overall; definitely sessionable.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-amber color. Frothy head. A creamy, hop centered Pale Ale, sort of Saranac’s rendition of a West Coast Pale Ale. Mellow orange in the aroma. Creamy malt body and sturdy hop backbone, this is sort of like an amped up version of their regular pale ale. Same fruity Saranac house yeast. Differs from it’s West Coast peers in that it also has a spicy noble hop thing going on. A pretty good beer, perfect full flavored session ale.

What happens when Saranac makes an APA? I think that has been a life long question of beer geeks in the Northeast for a while. Well, first of all its filtered appearance is represented in its filtered flavor. Oh and its a clear amber-orange color. Has a slightly sticky lacing. The beer has this weird burnt malt character, it permeates the aroma and flavor. There are hops, they seem lifeless but here. Its like, well I can’t tell because of this weird burnt character. Its basically what I would expect for Saranac and an APA in one.

From the winter variety pack: Bready barley malt nose, with a bit of dried leaves. Clear amber, thick yellow head, some glass adherence. Dried leaves, roses, and potpourri flavor. Acidic mouthfeel. One of the more flavorful Saranac beers.

12oz bottle pours clear copper with weak off white head. The aroma is a mix of caramel, mild nuttiness and roasty malts. The taste begins roasty and with a touch of nuttiness before it fades away to just about to nothing at all. That’s right, by midway I get pretty much the flavor of clean tap water. In the finish faint roasty and nutty malts weakly murmur up from this flavorless abyss.

Bottle. Pours a coppery color with a fluffy head and aromas of caramel and herbs... pretty faint. Flavor is decent... a nice malt backbone with an herbal hoppiness, a little grass and a bitter finish. That said, it’s pretty uninteresting...

12 ounce bottle from the winter sampler. Pours a clear amber color with a moderate head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of leafy and slightly herbal hops with a nutty maltiness. Taste is bitter herbal and spicy hops. Medium bodied. Decent and fairly bland.

One of Saranac’s best new beers in a long time. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel-amber color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma was sweet grapefruit, pine and pineapple. The flavor was sweetish, tart and bitter with notes of pineapple, grapefruit and a hint of caramel. The finish was long, sweet and had a fruit cocktail element. Medium body. Very nice.
