Sour ale - shamelessly using the word "lambic" on the label - with cherries, from a 37.5 cl bottle (n° 1235) bought at BeerTemple in Amsterdam and shared with my girlfriend and Craftmember at the latter's home. Loosely structured, only very lightly lacing, off-white, quickly dissolving head over a hazy, orange-tinged salmon pinkish beer, clearly not looking like a kriek lambic at all. Neither does it smell or taste like one, but the aroma sure is inviting nonetheless: salted tomatoes, sour cherry juice indeed but not to the extent that I expect from something using the wordings "lambic" and "kriek" on its label, dry rosé wine, Sauerkraut, red raspberries, rhubarb, wine vinegar, unripe gooseberries, some wet wood. Very crisp, acidic onset, rhubarb, redcurrant and unripe raspberry impressions more than anything convincingly sour cherry-like, some lemony acidity, drying but not overly puckering, softish carbo and a weird, strikingly Gose-like salty accent at the sides. Wheaty, bit soapy body, fruity acidity lingering as well as a yoghurty, lactic sourness, ending bone dry, tannic, fruity and astringent. Sour, but not too burning, with a nice array of flavours and refreshing character with a certain amount of depth and complexity - but a sour ale in the current, American, more generic sense of the word and not really convincing as a kriek, let alone any form of lambic.

Sampled @ 10th Danish Ratebeer Gathering, Ulfborg, Day 1. Very hazy murky pinkish color, small off-white head. Sourish yet fruity aroma, peach, oranges, nectarines. Flavor is more dominated by sourness, same fruits I’d say but not fully ripe, dry sour finish. Mostly reminds me of unripe raspberries. Decent.
