A COOL WINTER SPIN ON OUR SIGNATURE IPA
Our flagship Sculpin IPA shows its complexity in this limited Spruce Tip edition. For a different twist on our trademark IPA, we added Oregon spruce tips that contribute a unique piney, citrus and woody character on the nose. Plus, their flavor notes of red berry, lemon and wine grapes perfectly complement our hop profile. A great brew for the holidays and well beyond, this is a standout in a forest of IPAs.

Pours hazy amber with a thick white head. Aromatic, immediate sense of a variety of hops with a nice spruce hint. Taste is light and dominated by hops, slightly resinous mouthfeel. Palate contains a slight fruity element as well as a distinctly refreshing spruce taste. Really good beer.

Tap at Fort street Station. Medium to dark holden, small patchy head. Light piney aroma. Taste also relies on the pine, which nicely accents the base IPA. Not overpowering.

Pineapple, maraschino cherries, gumball aroma. Relatively clear amber, medium head, good lace. Grapefruit, grass. Maraschino cherry finish. Medium body, easy carbonation. Not a definitive spruce presence, but some lovely fruit notes.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/27/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, spruce tips, peppercorn, pine, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, spruce tips, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, spruce tips, peppercorn, pine, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berries, citrus peel/rind, wood, spruce tips, peppercorn, pine, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, spruce tips, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a fantastic spiced IPA. All around out outstading complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops, spruce tips, and bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink; despite the fairly aggressively bitter/resinous/drying finish. Same great Columbus, Centennial, Chinook, Simcoe, Amarillo profile as the base beer; with complementing spruce tip notes that aren't overdone at all. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balance hop/spruce tip complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on West coast style example as expected.

Draft at Pour Taproom. When this one poured a clear bright gold I thought I had poured the wrong beer. And then I remembered that this is what IPAs used to look like. Nice spruce and pine aroma too. And a bitter resiny finish. Christmas trees in a glass.

Orange amber color with an evergreen aroma. Flavor is bitter hops with some sweetness underneath, finishing with a pine tree sensation. Nice twist on a west coast IPA.

On draught at Old Chicago.
Pours a bit hazy orange gold with a small head of foam. It does last long...the foam.
Smells of spruce pine, orange zest, alcohol, hint of tropical fruit.
Taste has sharp pine with dry hopped character, alcohol, sharp and to me, unpleasant bitterness.
Body is good, overall, I'm not a fan. Shrugs.
