When Odin and his brothers slew Ymir, the first frost giant, the flood of blood that followed drowned nearly all of the Jötnar. All except Bergelmir and his wife. They escaped the deluge in a lúðr, a vessel whose meaning has been debated for centuries: was it a cradle, a coffin, a flour bin? We’ve chosen the version that fits our world—a hollowed-out log set adrift on icy waters.

Our take moves away from the bloodshed and instead imagines Bergelmir and his wife gliding through a starlit fjord, Northern Lights dancing overhead. It’s a quieter moment of survival and resilience—a myth retold with reflection instead of violence, but with the same enduring spirit.
