Launched at Bury St Edmunds Beer Festival 1999. Initially based at Thurston Granary, Station Hill, Thurston. A plan to expand the brewery into a local barn fell through during 2002. This left the brewery with no location to brew, so it used spare capacity at plants such as Buffys or Nethergate. A new location was found at the above address during the second half of 2003 however brewing didn't start there until about a year later. Brewing ceased in Summer 2018.
2025 - .
A small number of beers started reappearing in cask at local festivals and occasionally pubs from Spring 2025, including cult-classic Comrade Bill Bartrams Egalitarian Anti Imperialist Soviet Stout. Elmtree Beers holds the primary production agreement for the resurrected Bartrams recipes. Bartrams retain full ownership and Elmtree brew to the original specifications.
