Founded in 2021 by husband-and-wife team Brian Shirley and Liz Leahy, Time & Materials Beer Company™ is a nano-brewery based in Reading, Massachusetts. Guided by their motto, “decent beer for everyday people,” they craft approachable, agriculturally inspired beers that celebrate New England’s flavors and community spirit.

Starting with direct-to-consumer shipping across Massachusetts, the brewery shifted to selling at farmers markets, particularly the Wakefield Farmers Market, and select regional festivals. This pivot allows Brian and Elizabeth to connect directly with customers, sharing the stories behind their beers and building lasting relationships.

Time & Materials is committed to a “local-first” approach, sourcing ingredients from regional farms like Four Star Farms in Northfield and Valley Malt in Hadley. Their small-batch brewing highlights New England’s agricultural heritage, creating beers that reflect the region’s terroir while appealing to both casual drinkers and craft beer fans.

Collaboration is central to their ethos. Sparked by their “Advancement of Interest” series with Lost Shoe Brewing and Amory’s Tomb Brewing to create Belgian-inspired strong ales and unique barrel-aged variants. Regular collaborations with Hopothecary Ales, Navigation Brewing, Branch and Blade, Faces Brewing, and Twisted Fate Brewing yield diverse styles, from hoppy IPAs to rich pastry stouts, fostering creativity and strengthening ties within the New England craft beer scene.
