When it was completed in 1871, the Hunt's Block building was a relative skyscraper among the wooden structures of West Dundee. As the decades passed, Hunt's Block grew into a location worthy of its listing on the National Register of Historic Places. It was home to a number of flourishing businesses, including Dundee's first bank, a dry goods store, doctors' and lawyers' offices, a billiard hall, a ballroom...but never a fine-dining establishment. That all changed in 1998 when Andrew and Matthew Burns and their father, Timothy, purchased Hunt's Block. They completely renovated the classic building and crafted it into a restaurant named after a man of honor and dignity, Timothy's father, Emmett Burns. Today, Hunt's Block is home to Dundee's first small brewery, where award-winning handcrafted beer and outstanding food is created and enjoyed every day. In the years since we opened we have also opened and operated two more restaurants in the historic downtowns of Downers Grove and Palatine. In 2004, Emmett's won the prestigious Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Landmarks Illinois Preservation Award for Adaptive Use for the work done on restoring Hunt's Block.

Draught @ Downer's Grove location (Oct 2024). Clear dark brown with red highlights, creamy tan head, chocolate-sour cherry aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter chocolate-mocha taste with woodsy flavor and alcohol undertones, very smooth body, long finish with faint alcohol aftertaste. Very smooth and creamy.

Draught @ the brewpub (Oct 2024). Clear dark brown with reddish tint, large spongy tan head, nutty caramel aroma, medium carbonation, bitter dark roasted malt taste with caramel-toffee, thin body, long bitter finish. There's a bit of burnt flavor, but a good brew.

Tap at Emmetts. Beige head on top of a deep brown-black body. Rich, sweet, really leans into the style. Creamy coffee notes. Rich, heavy, but smooth on the palate. Good.

Tap at Emmetts. Big, bright citrus tone merges with the wheat well. Medium bodied. A pinch stale tasting, but bold flavors otherwise.

Tap at Emmetts. Really nice Rauchbier, rich and meaty. Deep copper brown body, off white head. Fully exceeded my expectations, quite Schlenkerla-like.

Tap at Emmetts. Pleasant malt depth, pretty enjoyable for a light beer. More enjoyable than their Pils. Good.

Tap at Emmetts. Crisp, bright. Straightforward. Drinkable, acceptable, but not a prime example of the style.

Taster glass. Black with highlights, thin ring of foam. Nose of cocoa and poblano. The first taste has more of a green chili note, and leaves a nice strong chili burn. That makes it hard to find any chocolate taste, ,aybe it's part of the overall sweetness. But then a cocoa after taste arrives at the end.
