Description
Williams Bros Brewing Company is a Scottish family-owned microbrewery, founded and operated by brothers Bruce and Scot Williams.

The Williams Bros. Brewing Co. started life in the humble ‘Glenbrew’ homebrew shop in Glasgow. The first beer brewed was the ‘Fraoch’ Heather Ale at a small 5-barrel brewery in Taynuilt, After the 2nd year of brewing in the Taynuilt brewery and with demand far out stripping supply the brothers decided to expand and also to diversify the range with five Historic Ales. These ales were produced at the new purpose built brewery and premises in Craigmill, Strathaven from 1998-2004.

In 2004 the brothers took over the ‘Forth Brewery’ at Kellibank, Alloa where Maclay’s had been contract brewing and packaging their beers since the sale of their old Alloa brewery. It was at this stage in proceedings that Heather Ale Ltd became Williams Bros. Brewing Co.

Surprisingly dry, full of citrus zest, with lemon and lime playing the main roles. Quite drinkable, with a slight citrus bitterness. It's not particularly distinctive, but overall it's a good drinker.

A slightly opalescent, golden beer with a large white head. Aromas of citrus and pine. The taste is syrupy sweetness, citrus, resinous pine, and a medium, resinous, slightly stem-like bitterness. A bit of spice from the rye. Not particularly typical, but drinkable.

440ml can from my mate Gordon, drank at home on 27th September 2025, after an afternoon drinking in Oakengates. Hazed amber body, white crown. Citrus bite throughout, very little malt action or sweetness.

Can from Aldi, Inverurie. It pours clear golden b- amber with a quickly dissipating white head. The aroma is oily, slick, sappy, resinous, pine, nice grapefruit vibes, pomelo and marmalade. The taste is slick, oily, smooth, restrained bitterness, west coast green vibes, piney, resin, sap, pithy, zesty, grapefruit, pomelo, waxy peel and peppery spice with a liner, drying finale. Average body and light carbonation. Ticks all the west coast boxes. Maybe a touch under carbonated. Good bang for your buck.

From Amstein, drinking this beer yesterday, after a nice walk in the Lavaux with my son. Sharing it with my wife, light and perfumed lager, fruity, malt, dry and sweet, clear note of guava, tropical fruit, bitter, light body, a bit watery.

Inoffensive stuff, drinkable enough, some pleasant bitter citrus rind and pine, lean pale malt character. Decent balance to finish. Not especially vibrant but it drinks fine overall.

From Amstein, sharing it with my wife, yesterday with a tasty Mexican dish, in family, perfect and light ipa for the meal, rather old school one, light body, dry, resinous note of hop, a bit citrus, a bit fruity, aromatic and floral.

Bottle from Tesco. Black body with a beige head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Patchy lacing. Aroma of ginger, marzipan and dark chocolate. Flavour of marmalade, lightly roasted malt and vanilla. Medium bodywork with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. An interesting and tasty dark beer, one of my supermarket go-tos.
