Bottle. Pours near black with a thick brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with a bit of bitter dark grain and a rye whiskey bite supporting. Flavor has a nice combination of roasted malts and rye whiskey with a bitter, dry dark grain backbone.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a hazy caramel-tan color with a large creamy orange-tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was cola and tart citric acid. The flavor was tart, sour and dry with a citric acid presence. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.

I ended up enjoying this one more than I expected. +++ Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a copper-orange color with a small foamy white head that faded quickly and left minimal lacing. The aroma was jalapeno, tangy and sugary. The flavor was sweet and malty with honey, vague fruits, sugar and a bit of jalapeno. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied. Odd but ok.

Gruit. 4% alcohol +++ Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark caramel color with a medium sized off white head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was bubblegum, clove and had a medicinal presence. The flavor was herbal, floral, dusty, tangy, a touch "off" and had a white pepper element. Long dusty, floral, white pepper finish. Medium body but a touch flat.

Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black - with a small foamy beige head that left decent lacing. The aroma was vanilla, toasty malts and caramel. The flavor was wood, bourbon, toasty malts, vanilla and caramel. No noticeable rye presence. Longish bourbon and caramel finish. Moderately full bodied. The alcohol was very well contained. Quite nice.

Hazy light amber and deep copper coloured body with a single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of honey, resin, alcohol, pine, sap, apricots and sugary alcohol. Full-bodied; Assertive apricot and honey flavour with a lot of resin and pine right behind with some malt, caramel, toffee and much more alcohol burn near the end. Aftertaste shows some heavy body, syrupy apricot sweetness and a lot of hop bitterness with very little else. Overall, a very high alcohol and apricot sweet heavy beer with a big body and little room for anything else. That said, it isn’t the worst beer, but just an Imperial IPA with a relatively narrow focus and heavy body/alcohol content. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 03-January-2014 for US$3,99, sampled on 30-October-2015. This bottle states an ABV of ’only’ 10%. Bottle Best By: 31-Dec-2013 (Lot 348) // Purchased: 03-January-2014 // Sampled: 31-October-2015
