About
In 1356, with the decree of the Golden Bul by Emperor Charles IV, the cities in the Holy Roman Empire, including Wittichenau, were granted the right to brew beer. The beer was largely brewed in private, business and trading houses. In Wittichenau a common brewery was founded in 1435, this is considered as the year of foundation of the brewery. In 1940 the brewery was acquired by Eduard Glaab. It is the oldest private brewery in Saxony and has been run as a family business by the Glaabs for three generations now.

Ausgesprochen süßer Antrunk, deutlich alkoholisch. Im Mittelteil wird das Bier etwas herb, dies bemerkt man aber erst, wenn man sich an die Süße gewöhnt hat. Wenig malzig, ein leichter Hopfenton bricht schnell zusammen. Erneut süß, ewas grasig. Eine etwas eigenwillige Interpretation eines Bocks. Deep golden, quite stable, almost creamy (and almost off-) white head; medium sweet caramelly nose, sorrounded by bready traces; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, medium bodied; quite short, bready and sweet-bitter finish with traces of alcohol. All in all a well quaffable DDR-Bock......

(bottle, courtesy of Koelschtrinker) Almost clear, deep golden colour with a medium-sized, slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet cara-malty, slightly bready nose with minimal traces of liquorice and herbal hops. Sweet flavour, medium bodied with a soft and pleasant carbonation. Bready, cara-malty taste with balancing and bittering herbal hops; rounded sweet-bitter malt-accented finish. Not too sweet, quaffable pale Bock (01.04.08).
