Fourteen years on and the brewery has moved from strength to strength. The pub is now self sufficient in real ale, with beer brewed on the premises and rolled a mere 10ft from brewery to cellar. The word local has come to mean just that, and with no deliveries from other brewers we have significantly reduced our carbon footprint.
With great excitement we gained the excellent brewing skills of our head brewer Olly Eltringham!
Water is taken from the river Coquet at Warkworth, out of the tap and into the vessels. Malt from Thomas Fawcett and all the beers use the same bittering hop called ‘Arora’.

500ml Bottle - Golden with a white head. Roasted malt, coffee and hints of dried fruit in the aroma. Nutty and slightly roasted taste with chestnuts, walnuts, dried apricot and biscuity malt detected. An interesting beer with an unusual aroma and taste for a beer this colour.

Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland 28/02/14, cheers to Matt for picking this one up for me. Dark mahogony brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is light cocoa, toffee, bscuit notes. Taste comprises light cocoa, dark berry fruit, toffee. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. So so stout, pretty basic, bottle suggested coffee - couldn’t find it, not unpleasant in anyway just lacking in flavour.

Bottle. A clear, dark brown beer topped by a small, off-white head. The aroma is quite weak, lightly roasted and coffee-ish, with some toffee and dried fruits. The flavor has roasted malts, coffee and toffee. Prunes too, at very moderate levels. Full body, soft carbonation. Roasted, toffee-ish finish with a little bitterness. Pretty nice this one, could easily do a few of these. 140228

Bob picked this up from the brewpub, cheers Bob. Consumed outside Frank (camper) at Cropredy Fairport festival 8th August 2013 Pours mid amber with white head. Traditional bitter with toffee, reasonably bitter, lacks hoppiness but then it is a traditional bitter. Ok. A6 A4 T5 P3 Ov10 2.8
