[1/28/17] Bottle/Draught at RateBeer Best festival in Santa Rosa. Golden. Spicy, herbal (heather), sweet, malt, a bit of fruitiness. Not really my thing.

Keg at the Flavor Bistro with the RBWG 2016 crew. Pours clear gold with a creamy, white head. Odd nose, light vegetal notes, biscuits, hay. Lightly sweet flavour, with more vegetal notes, dough, white bread. Light bodied with average carbonation. Bitter finish, with more doughy biscuits, hay, grass. So so overall. A very basic lager.

Keg at Flavor with the crew. Pours unclear gold with a creamy, white head. Nice nose, some pithy citrus, pale bread. Medium sweet flavour with hard bitter orange peel, pithy grapefruit, tangerine. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A little harsh on the finish, with bitter grass and citrus rind, light pine. Too bitter overall, not enough balance. So so.

Keg at Flavor Bistro. Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose holds ashy roast, cocoa. Light sweet flavour, with ample charred malts, baking cocoa, strong roast, scorched earth. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat harsh and bitter on the finish, with more scorched earthy and ashy-woody dryness. Just OK.

Keg at the Flavor Bistro with all my RB bros. Pours clear, deep brown with a foamy, tan head. The nose holds toasted malts, caramel, light earth. Medium sweet flavour with more toasted bread character, more caramel, earth, dried berries. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish with earthy bitterness, hints of pine, toasted caramel. OK stuff. Pushes the limits of ’malt liquor’, I will add.

Tap at SF Beer Week Opening Gala. Pours clear brown. Aroma: Burnt lager indeed, little roast, but mostly pale malts and a nice veil of hops on top. Medium body, lots of toasted malts and nuts, quite bitter but also caramelly sweet. Nice
