Draught at Toronado, San Francisco. Opaque black, no head. Sweetish and very roasty with clean rounded mouthfeel. Dominated by hop flavours - grapefruit and licorice. The malt character is it’s weak side - it’s very clean and straightforward, leaving it far behind the top examples of the style.

Draught at Toronado, San Francisco. Dark clear amber, creamy head. Rich grapefruit aroma. Sweet and soft with creamy mouthfeel. Aromatic and peachy, like whipped cream with hops! Long bitter finish.

Cask. dark amber beer with a big off-white head. Big fruity (grapefruit/mango) aroma. Grapefruit/pine flavor with a bit of sweet malt. Lingering bitterness. Slight astringency starts up, then keeps its presence known (this may have been some oxidation from the cask - don’t know - If it is, then this would be a better beer).

Cask. Blackish beer with a nice beige head. Caramal malt and some roastiness in the aroma. Caramel malt, roasty, and then a nice bitter hop (pine/citrus) flavor. Nicely balanced. Easy to drink. Rich, velvety mounthfeel.

Draft. Black beer with a big cocoa head. Roasty aroma. Roasty flavor with chocolate, some coffee, and sweet malt. Lingering roastiness. Medium bodied. Nice balance. This could easily be a stout.

Draft. Light golden beer with a short white head. Nice spicy noble hop aroma and very fresh smelling. Lots of hops in this - it’s what you would imagine a super-hopped pils to be like. Some noble hop flavor with a kick off grassiness and some citrus. A touch of sweet malt backing. Hops linger. Nice aftertaste. Gone too fast.

Pitch black coloured body with absolutely no head. Aroma of burnt malt, some caramel and a bit of overroasted coffee. Not the best aroma around, thats for sure. Medium-bodied; Burnt malt flavour with a smoky nuance behind. Aftertaste bittered by all the flavours-no sweetness at all! Overall, great to try, but lacking in so many dimensions! I sampled this pint from draught at Toronado in San Francisco, California on the second day of 10-June-2004...our first was spent in Sydney, Australia.

Clear copper coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of west-coast citrus & grapefruit hops. Decent aroma-nothing crazy though. Medium-bodied; Strong pungent hop kick of citrus & grapefruit-with a nicer malt backbone. Aftertaste bittered from the hops, a decent overall flavour. Overall, a nice IPA from the west coast! I sampled this pint from draught at Toronado in San Francisco, California on the second day of 10-June-2004...our first was spent in Sydney, Australia.
