Description
The more than 725-year-old beer tradition in Litovel dates back to 1291, when King Wenceslas II granted the city the mile right. This privilege allowed only the Litovel burghers to brew and tap beer within a radius of one medieval mile, i.e. in a vicinity of approximately seven kilometres. In the Middle Ages, beer was brewed in a brewing house, which was then located at Litovel 57. Those with brewing rights were among the most affluent people, and played a significant role in managing the city. Even contemporary Litovel beer is brewed using classic processes, the roots of which date back to this glorious historical era.

Bottle, at RBNG-14 Grand Tasting. A clear, golden beer with a small, white head. The aroma has pale malts, grains and maize, and also some butterscotch. The flavor has the same butterscotch, some DMS and a touch of pale malts and bitterness. Medium to thin on the palate, nice carbonation. Short finish. Not very pleasant this one. 140215

Third beer of the day at Green Week in Berlin on 17th Jan 2014 as I drank around the world. 0.3 Litre on-tap within the Czech Republic area at the festival. Usual lager/pils look: golden, clear and bright. White head that didn’t stay long. Crisp refreshing but odourless and almost tasteless in nature: nothing to set it apart from all the other brews in this style really. Pleasant enough, but not enough to make me choose it over any other Czech Pilsner.

Looks like a Dunkel should do. Lots of bread , caramel, roast in aroma. Sweetish taste. The palate is very thin & watery. Nothing intresting.

500ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, dark brown colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Cautious, sweet-ish, dark malty aroma with a nuttily touch. Taste is moderately sweet malty, hints of treacle, malt lozenge, toffee, rock sugar, in the finish even a touch of roast and coffee; relatively light, slightly watery. Tasty.

Bottled 500ml Alko. Deep golden color, small white head. Sweetish malty aroma is a bit grainy too. Medium-bodied. Quite alcoholic with hints of unclean diacetylic notes, iron and honey. Lingering sharp and herbal bitterness in the aftertaste. Not among the better strong Czech beers but quite typical 13 plato.

50cl bottle from Alko. 6,1%. Bb 01.10.14. Deep golden, lacing white head. Hay, butter, grain, swetness in aroma. Flavor has sweet malt, grain, buttery notes, hay and hops. Dry finish with hay and butter. Quite good really, not nearly as sweet as I had thought this would be.
