Description
The more than 725-year-old beer tradition in Litovel dates back to 1291, when King Wenceslas II granted the city the mile right. This privilege allowed only the Litovel burghers to brew and tap beer within a radius of one medieval mile, i.e. in a vicinity of approximately seven kilometres. In the Middle Ages, beer was brewed in a brewing house, which was then located at Litovel 57. Those with brewing rights were among the most affluent people, and played a significant role in managing the city. Even contemporary Litovel beer is brewed using classic processes, the roots of which date back to this glorious historical era.

Tap at Los Bastardos Olomouc as Josef 12°. Clear golden body, thick white head. Herbal hoppy aroma, bit metallic but okay. Lean, dry taste, grainy, bit herbal, didn't think it was excessively bitter, but my tolerance for bitterness is pretty huge. Ends astringent though and vaguely tart. Meh.

4,0% ABV.

Tap at Smíchovské vidličky a nože as Sládkův Tip Svatomartinský Speciál 13, then repeated at U Věstonického Venouše, where I was told it was made at Litovel. Potentially the same as what used to be Zubr Svatomartinský Speciál 13,5%. Dark copper-brown aroma, creamy off-white head. Light aroma, creamy raisin and caramel, malty. Malty smooth taste, light creamy dried fruit, caramel, trace herbal, very vaguely metallic, but not bad, actually a decent drinkable caramelly malty lager!

Bottle shared in Krakow with wombat23 who, frankly, didn’t make much progress. Deep gold with a frothy, white head. Industrial aroma. Very faint honey. Taste is sweet with lingering grains and honey. Simple. Drinkable aside from the lousy aroma.
