Tap at Devil Craft, Tokyo. Brown colour with a white head. Aroma of alcohol, dark fruits. Flavour matches the aroma, alcohol, dark fruits, but unfortunately not as good.

Crisp copper coloured body with a very thin off-white head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, bread, pepper, bubble gum and a hint of curacao. Light-bodied; Pungent yeast flavour up front with a definite belgie characteristic, some lighter malt notes, a hint of earthy hops and a little toffee sweetness. Aftertaste shows mainly malt flavours with a hint of earth, some very light sugars and at the tail end - a little of the complex belgian yeast strain, but not enough to rescue the beer. Overall, a below par offering with some good thoughts, just not well executed. Still, nice to sample this beer that I’d never find on the East Coast, but wish I would have packed something better in my bag across the country. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Pear Delicatessen in Seattle, Washington on 11-February-2013 for US$3.83 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 21-March-2013.

Draught at Q-Brick. Amber-orange with lace. Estery nose, with peaches, earthy. Fruity, earthy flavor, again esters and stone fruits. Quite bland and boring. Doesn’t really go anywhere.

Crisp, hazy and nicely tinted bronze and amber coloured body with a bit of a ruby glow at the bottom with a perfect, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pungent pineapple, citrus, piney and sweet hops with a lot of honey and resin noticeable and quite a bit of alcohol. Full-bodied; Super malty at first with a resinous bite of hops, some pineapple and floral hop notes also come through, but a lot of sugars and even more alcohol. Aftertaste shows a lot of all these tastes with a hint of fruit, some piney bitterness and a great sweet finish complete with the hop flavours really going strong. Overall,a very nice Imperial IPA, I just would have preferred a smaller format bottle, but I know this is what they do out West, and at least they charge a respectable price. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 11-January-2013 for US$7.49 sampled at home in the real Washington on 06-February-2013 two days before leaving for Washington state again.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a nice 2 finger fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big mango, pineapple, orange peel, pepper, clove, banana, bubblegum, herbal, floral, grass, earth, and spicy yeast esters. Damn nice aromas with good balance, complexity, and strength of hop and yeast ester notes. Taste of big mango, pineapple, orange zest, banana, clove, pepper, pear, bubblegum, grass, floral, bread, honey, and earthy yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of citrus, tropical fruit, clove, banana, pepper, floral, grass, pear, and earthy yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of hops flavors and spicy yeast esters; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a moderate warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent hoppy Belgian strong golden ale! Great complexity and balance of hop and yeast esters; and very smooth to sip on for 10%. A highly enjoyable offering.

On Draft at Lezzet’s part of a 1000 yen tasting set. Obviously an American craft beer following the current trend of adding tons of hops to every style. You definitely feel the 10%, a decent gold color and mouthfeel. My first impression was a piney floral aroma followed by a strong hoppy taste and some warming in my stomach. It is pretty nice but not my cup of tea, if you like your beers hoppy & strong this beers for you. Shared from a bottle at Tadg’s, it poured aclear amber color with a hoppy, fruity peppery nose & a slightly sour fruity taste. Much better from the bottle served in a snifter.

Bottle shared by bu11zeye. Pours with a hazy golden hued body with a moderate sized white head. Aromas are extremely hoppy, herbal, grassy, light tropical fruit. Flavors are grassy, bready, some candi sugar like residual character, medium esters, medium to low bitterness, dry, hoppy, tasty.
