Draught @ Big Time, Seattle, WA. Pours dark orange with a smooth head. Aroma of caramely malts, toffee, pine and resin. Taste is malty, sweetish and fruity with loads of caramel, toffee and pine. Finish is sweet, malty and fruity with some citrus and pine. Sweet and piney, a bit heavy DIPA. --- Beer merged from original tick of Blind Illusion Imperial IPA on 20 May 2016 at 18:13 - Score: 7

Draft at brewery. dark golden honey color, clear. Surprisingly malty and not so hoppy beer, would not guess this is 9.5. Tastes like a malty pale ale. Some sweet pale malts with a bit of mineral. Some hop bitterness at the end of flavor but otherwise that is the biggest representation of hops. Waste of a "DIPA."

Draft at brewery. Very hazy pale gold color, sticky-icky lacing. Radiant beer that looks pretty. The SMASH is highlighting the citra hop. I am not the biggest fan of citra. Its dry herbal leaf, which is fine but not the hoppiness I like.

Draft at brewery. This beer is messed up. It tastes like bark, I guess. Or very very old malt that is offputting. Yuck, I can’t do it. I just don’t understand.

Surprising beer b/c Big Time has been a waste of my time since I moved to Seattle. This may be the last time I come here. Met up with Pruf as a sort of bon voyage to Big Time. Black beer, brown head. A dry, well attenuated beer. A bitter roast malt end. Chocolate flavor, low hop. Dry black malt flavor. An un-big imperial stout. I could do this again.

Blind tasting, beer #1 of 6.
2014 bottle. This was the top (or tied top) placing beer of the blind tasting. I have always wanted to drink this beer but just wasn’t getting around to it while living in Seattle. I am glad I got a chance to do so blind. My personal notes mention it was old malts, sweet but not too old. Meaning, I could tel the age was there but I wasn’t too concerned. This applies to the other old beer in the lineup as well.

Draft pour to a tulip at Big Time. Pours a copper amber color with a fading fizz head. Aroma is a steady malt with a juicy side. Thick body, caramel malt, hints of fruit, maybe cranberry, and a hop bitter finish. A little on the boozy side. Solid imperial for sure.

I’m enjoying this recent trend of mine, taking beers out of Ratebeer hiatus. It’s fun, and also I realize that it’s because everyone else who lives here has already rated it back when I was in High school. Maybe not this one, but still. On foot Seattle crawl, stop #1. Dark copper pour with a big bubble ring head. Aroma is incredible, with tangerine and grapefruit. Citrus fruit flavor up front, with a moderate hop bitterness, and a bit of a dry finish. This is a solid, incredible triple, in a style that I constantly find inconsistencies. Nothing off putting with this. Cool flavor theoughout, great fruit citeus, and a solid hop profile. One of the best beers I’ve had with "the" in the name. Of not the best. Loved it.
