Hand-pulled half-pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates during a beer festival on 30th April 2022. Black bodied, tanned head. Didn't pick up any 'beetroot' aromas or flavours to be honest, just seemed a normal Stout, malty but a bit 'watery' in nature. Hoped for more 'oomph'.

Cask @ Waterhouse, Manchester. Very dark brown with a frothy-bubbly head. Has a pleasant and easy dark maltiness.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a medium sized cream head. There are roast malts and vanilla in the nose. In the mouth it has a creamy texture, with flavours of roast malts, liquorice and treacle. Some alcoholic strength starts to show later. Finish is quite dry. Excellent – a beer worthy of the cause !

Clear pale gold with a lovely creamy white head and floral hops on the nose, with perhaps a hint of citrus fruit going on. Creamy smooth, very hoppy, mostly floral with some citrus elements, and a semi-sharp bitterness towards the finish

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a tight cream head. Roast malts on the nose, whilst in the mouth the texture is creamy. Flavour is mainly chocolate with roast malts, cocoa and traces of fruit. Finish is bitter coffee grounds. There is very nice indeed – got a bit of body to it.

Cask pint in the Brewery Tap, Chester on 20th Sep 2020. Amber body, off-white topping. Light malty front to the aroma and taste, mild hop bitterness mid-sip; not too 'Special' in my opinion, but it's fine for a 4.2% Bitter.

Bottle at home – as always these days ! Fresh hops are the main strand in the nose, though there is also some marmalade there.. Pours a palish amber with a bubbly off-white head that soon dissipates. In the mouth it is sweet and malty, with marmalade again. Finish is dry and bitter. Nice enough – but not “special” ! PS just read the official description - it's not dark and ruby either !
