Bottle from Yamaoka. Very nice hoppy nose, lemon, grass, a bit of catpiss. Very light, bready maltiness, clean and lager-like. A lot of Nelson, I would guess. Orange-golden coilor, clear, with a low, bubbly head. Hoppy and lemony flavor, with rich biscuit and bready malts, slightly pissy hops. Very round, mellow, soft and silky body. Rather bitter finish. Good, but not perfect.

630 yen on tap at Yellow Ape Craft, 250ml. 5.8% pours a deep clear gold with a thin filmy head of foam. Served in a stange. A surprising citrus grapefruit aroma. The taste is a very crisp dry lightly puckering citrus bitterness with just hints of bitterness in the finish. Slightly slick mouthfeel on a medium-light body. A really good lager, some might label it that new "style" India Pale Lager.

Draft - A bit herbal, coffee and some roast malts. Pitch black with a thin brown head. Dark malts and a vegetal herbal quality, coriander? Not sure, as I know i am looking for it and not sure what I am getting along with the roast. It is a vegetal bitterness though which I donโt thin overall make for a good beer.

Draught at Bungalow. Pretty deep golden color with a fine head. Fruity, hoppy nose with white grapes and citrus. Sweet and fruity flavor, hot and bitter finish. Should be a couple % less booze, I think, as it starts off really sweet and ends up too hot. Nice flavors, but a bit rough.

On tap at Dig Bar, a collaboration beer between North Island & Coedo launched at the Sapporo Beer Forest event. It poured a clear copper gold with a malty crisp biscuit aroma. The taste was bitter pine, ascerbic, hoppy a touch fruity with a crisp malty body. Bitter but tasty, really well done.

On tap at Ant n Bee, August 2013. Hazy orange with a small white head. A bit sour and really bitter with grape and citrus. Quite on the extreme side and not that balanced.

North Islandโs IPA. 7% 630 yen. Tulip @ Yellow Ape Craft. A nice malty sweet fruity beer, definitely hop forward. Probably the closest Iโve seen to a Dogfish Head IPA made in Japan. North Island are one of the better breweries in Japan no doubt.

Draught at 1020. Great NS nose, grassy, citrus, with some Belgian-yeast induced spice and honey. In the mouth, though, it gets a bit weird, with cat piss and honey and sweet orange. Oily palate. Interesting but something doesnโt go together right.
