A bottle I picked up at the souvenir shop in Sapporo station. A very solid brown ale, easy to drink and it would make a nice session beer. It poured a reddish brown with an off-white head and lots of fine carbonation. The flavor is a malty sweetness with a bit of a sour fruity tang to it. Refreshing & easy to drink. North Island seems to make good to great beers, I love their Coriander Black.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012, London. Pours brown with a small, off-white head. Dark malt nose with some grapes and herbs. Light sweet flavor with some tang and dirt. Light boided with soft, fine carbonation. Light sweet finish with further tang and some misplaced spices. Not great, really.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012. It pours cloudy dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is coriander, meaty, spice and soy sauce. The taste is caramel, roasted malt, charcoal, chocolate cardboard, herbal, toast and soy sauce. Medium body and average carbonation. Interesting, but I’m just not a great fan of herbal flavours in my beer...

Draught at 1020. Soft yet fragrant hop nose, citrus (grapefruit), light grass, licorice and a bit of roasted chocolate. Shiny black with lace. Sofy, mellow body and flavor. Great hops, grapefruit and pepper. Very mellow and lovely. Long peppery finish with a light chocolaty roast. Excellent.

Draught at 1020. Orange-gold color with a fine head. Cloudy. Aroma of light sweat, salt, grass, lemon, wheat. Nice nose, though could be stronger. Flavors of cat piss, grass, lemon, pepper, wheat. Sour edge is nice Light and smooth, a bit thick. Gets a bit metallic and heavy though the pint. A good first impression, but turns more into a thick weizen with too much banana and clove coming out. Still decent.
