Draught at Snow Monkey Live. I’ve had this several times and it always seems different, but this time was the shit! Big, fragrant citrus hops with a wonderful malt backbone, round and sweet, but not too sweet because the hops were big. Good bitterness. A fine beer.

a touch of eastery. Strawberries, light, balanced malty. Rounded, excellent.

cloudy, cloying, not balanced. Lots of esters. Drank a strong ale fest at the brewery’s taproom in Sapporo and this was clearly the worst beer.

big roasty character, peppers, chocolate, citrus. Full body. Moderate bitter finish. Awesome. Nit over the top in any way. Kick butt.

dark amber color. Rounded, caramel, strawberries, very smooth, alcohol very well hidden. (8%). Excellent.

Red Ale from North Island Beer

Draught at Bay Brewing. Nice red color with lace. Nose of caramel, chocolate, dirty hops, cherry. Malty flavor, with cocoa, dirty, earthy hops, light fruit. Very good malt character. Well made and nicely balanced.

Draught at Beer Republic. Pale gold, tall, fine head. Lightly cloudy. Aroma of banana, clove, lemon, wheat and grains. Light malt flavor, clove, pepper, citrus. Clean and rather lean. Not much happening, but drinkable and refreshing, and better as it warmed.

Draught @ Golden Garden, Hiroshima. Rated on 13.9.2011
Aroma is slightly sweet with malt and rather light. Flavour is hoppy and sweetish with malt, caramel and toffee. Somewhat hoppy finish. Good brown ale, but nothing special really.

Grapefruit IPA from North Island Beer

Veery cloudy amber orange color. Moderately pungent grapefruity nose. Despite the look, the beer is solidly balanced, with an excellent malty backbone, but damn this is once of the most bitter citrusy beers I’ve ever had. Puckering. Fruit is well integrated. Bone dry. The more I drink the more I groove on this. Grapefruit lovers rejoice. I also don’t think I will get sick for a long time. Interesting stuff.

Draught at Craft Beer Bar. Seems this is now a regular of theirs. Rich caramel with chocolate but not too sweet. Slight tangy fruit flavor there as well. Very nice. Has quite a spritzy mouth feel. Strong carbonation, but that works with the sweetness.
