Dark with a tan head. Roasted malts, sweet malt, some cocoa, and just a hint of coriander in the aroma. Flavor is much like a stron schwarzbier with light coriander spicing. Very nice. (Draught at Keg, Nagoya)

Dark and intriguing. Malty, roasted, lightly milky aroma. Mouht is a bit chalky, but not bad. Roasted malts, light vanilla, chocolate, sweet, in the flavor. A decent Impy. (Draught at Craftheads, Tokyo)

Draught at Q-brick, Strong Ale Fest 2010. Another Japanese-made Foreign Stout calling itself an Imperial. A bit of a disapointment, since their regular stout is so good. Milky aroma with coffee, chocolate, cinnamon, and bit of wood and roasted malt. Sweetish. Shiny black with brown lace. Sweet, fruity flavor with chocolate, coffee, cream, and a finish of burnt wood. Big-time fruit that is not very stout-like and neither the richness nor the body of an imperial.

Draught at Craft Beer Base. Extremely refreshing summertime IPA, and the grapefruit blends wonderfully with the big, bitter citrus hops. Much nicer than the first time, more integrated and refined. 2009 Rating: 7/3/7/3/15: Pale Copper color with lace. Aroma of grapefruit and citrus hops, honey. Bitter-sour flavor combination is original and interesting. Nice malt underneath. Fruity, with lots of grapefruit, though not so sweet. Well done; just a bit strange.

Copper amber with a nice tan head. Floral and fruity aroma with some caramel malts. Flavor has a ton of bitter hops but very little flavor, actually. A bit of fruit and floral with a light maltiness. The finish is almost annoyingly bitter since it seems like it comes out of no where. A decent brew but I wouldn’t do two of these. Re-rate from bottle. Much better than the previous pint I had. The citrus and hops flavor really comes though in the bottle. A bit of pine, also. Very bitter finish. Rating reflects the bottle version.

Bottle at the brewery. Dark amber color, strong hop aroma, with full amber/caramel malt. Great malt character, rich and full. Fruity with buttery edge, great hops. Great balance: very rich and very hoppy. Long hop and amber malt finish that turns into a long burning hop sensation. Dark fruits throughout. Excellent.

Draught at the brewery. Pitch black with a nice creamy head. Sweet and sour fresh malt aroma. Creamy, good roasting, sweet-and-sour flavor, on the sweet side, with chocolate. A good sour edge, though. Dark chocolate, milk, not overly sweet. Great balance. Medium body, very crisp.

Draught at the brewpub, Nov. 2007. Dark amber color. Fine, foamy head. Fruity, sweetish, caramel malt aroma. Sweet and sour caramel malt flavor. Slightly roasted malt. Very fruity, but good hops. Relatively light, very refreshing. A touch of bubblegum. Crisp and very flavorful. Great balance between fruity malt and sour/citrus/hops. Interesting. Very creamy. Sweetish but great flavor.

Draught at the brewery, 2007. Cider and pilsner mix, basically. The apple juice is allowed to ferment as well. Malt and cider aroma. Crisp and fruity, sour, with lightish malt. Apple/cider flavor. Quite tart. Beer flavor in the background, a bit of hops, a bit of malt sweetness, but sour/tart apples are the strongest. A bit of the buttery flavor there as well. Very nice. Sour apple, buttery and hop finish.
