Description
Keltek, meaning ‘Celtic’ in the Cornish language was chosen as the brewery’s name by founder and head brewer Stuart Heath. Established in 1997, our award-winning ales are brewed by hand with care and craftsmanship, using whole hop flowers and British malts. After winning gold for his very first brew, demand for his beers grew tremendously and expansion was needed. The first move was to a larger unit in Lostwithiel where the brewery’s capacity increased five-fold. In 2007 Keltek expanded again, moving to its current home in Redruth. We now have the capacity to brew over 250 brewer’s barrels a week. In addition, we have our own fully automated bottling line which filters, carbonates, fills, labels and caps the beer. Everything’s done in-house.

Keltek remains a family owned brewery that adheres to the age old traditions of brewing by hand with care and craftsmanship using the finest whole hop flowers, British malts and hand-pitched yeast.

Bottle at Mes Tasting. Cloudy amber-brown with a mild head. Malts, light fruits, brown sugar. Almost smells like a malt liquor. Medium sweet, light leaves and tart fruits, mild caramel. Medium in body with fine to lively carbonation. Bit of booze to finish, some faint malts and fruit. Not very good.

Golden-amber colour. The aroma is lightly malty, maybe a hint of caramel. Spicy-juicy character - that’s somewhat unique - an ok beer.

Cask (Southampton Beer Festival 2010) - Hazy amber in colour. The taste has some hoppy notes with grapefruit and toffee detected. The taste is nicely balanced with grapefruit and spicy malt evident.

[Gravity cask at Chippenham beerfest] Brown sauce, autumn fruits, a hint of smoke, earthy and a dry finish. The brown sauce is a little odd, but it grew on me. OK.

Cask handpull at Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Copper colour, thin beige head. Like a strawberry fruit bitter. Strawberry fruit gets a bit sweet and cloying. Dies really.
