Black and a fairly thick beer. Lactose in the aroma and the flavor, and I’m not really into lactose. Mild roasted grain in the aroma as well, flavor has the lactose and roasted malt with just a little coffee and chocolate.

(Hand bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of BrianK. Pours an almost clear amber golden with a handsome, off-white head leaving laces. Rather fat and oily hop aroma with peachy accents. Medium body with some caramel, a weird ashy note and a very dry and very bitter hoppy finish. 190608

Out of a growler (thanks to Ron for this). I was told that the growler was opened a day earlier, and some of the hops presence took a hike, so I’m bearing that in mind. Orange body... grapefruit and pineapple aromas with a touch of pine. Flavor was fairly hop heavy but came off as a bit weak in terms of malt presence.

Pint pour, at the brewpub in Minneapolis. Pour is clear amber, with an off white head. About an inch, and quite lasting. The remnants of the head streaked the glass nicely. Aroma of floral and citrus hops up front, with some nice sweet toasted maltiness in the back. Taste is much more balanced towards the hops - very fresh, almost wet tasting citrus (grapefruit) and floral. Nice bitterness from tip of the tongue to the back of the throat. The malt is in the middle in finish, though certainly takes a back seat to the hops. The palate was surprisingly thin, and led to this being a bot on the watery side. An excellent IPA.

Bottle at the Laid Back Brussels Tasting (Feb 9, 2008)
Clear amber, off-white, fizzy head. Aroma is heavily on the american hops (even quite one dimensional on these) inducing also some flowery aromas. Some malty aromas of caramel are present too. Heavily hoppy bitter, lightly sweet flavour. The flavour is quite heavy on the hops as well, but the balance nor complexity aren’t well looked after. Nice but not great, too one dimensional.

Not the rich, sweet malty beer I was expecting. It has a light gold color and the definitely the Town Hall house flavor on it. Very little aroma at all, some sugar. In the flavor is more interesting. Mild hops and considerable honey, but unfortunately it just doesn’t taste all that great. Earthy finish, and low carbonation. The alcohol is well hidden.

Nice dark red color. Light fruit aroma. Raspberry is prominent in the flavor, along malt that is on the dry side. No hop presence, and that is fine. An easy to drink, pleasant beer. But it is far to thin and dry to be a Belgian bruin.

A nice beer, more flavorful than the merlot stout. Aroma has oak and roasted malt. Flavor is medium sweet malt, oak, and light vinous character. Very dark brown. But as Oslo stated, the palate is lacking.

I liked this, but there is too little smoke to call this a smoke beer rather than a weizen. A bright, cloudy orange color that looks the way a weizen should look. Herbal, sour aroma with wheat, quite strange for the style, and yet, no smoke in the aroma. When I do take a sip, there is some smoke, barely. Wheat sweetness as well, and the lightest spice. Thick, heavy palate. This is a great idea that needs some refinement. More smoke!

Thanks to the kind person who took the growler of this to Dark Lord Day. It had been on my wants list for some time. Slightly cloudy medium gold pour with a thin fleeting head. Earthy, musky hop aroma. The flavor is smoothly bitter. Citrusy and piney hops with just enough malt to let you know it’s there. Long bitter finish. Nice one.
