Description
Kompaan had humble beginnings, with just a few recipes and a whole lot of gusto. The brewery was founded by Jeroen and Jasper, two school friends that have known each other longer than not. They shared a zest for life and were ready to put The Hague on the craft beer map. The brewery name is based on this friendship, two companions drinking together. As a modern, young brewery making contemporary, exciting beers, the name is spelt in modern Dutch, as “kompaan”, and not “compaen”.

0.33 l can from 'Mr. Hop', canned in August 2024. Hazy, very dark ruby with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity and slightly smoky aroma of caramel, molasses, raisins, plum and smoked ham. Fairly sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite smoky and slightly fruity taste of caramel, molasses, raisins, plum and smoked ham, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly boozy finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very pleasant and harmonious beer, nice subtle barrel influence, very rich and saturating. Liked the bourbon variant a little better though.
