Quite sweet, malty, fairly roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted hazelnut and a touch of licorice, followed by a short, gently roasty-bitter finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Lovely Schwarzbier, resembles their core-range Dunkles a lot imho.

0.5 l bottle from 'EDEKA Gronemann', as 'Castroper Revierweizen' at 4.8% abv, best before March 2024. Very hazy, orangeish amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, rather yeasty-spicy, slightly fruity aroma of clove, banana, pear, orange and some grains. Slightly sweet, quite bitter, gently yeasty-spicy and quite fruity taste of orange, grapefruit, banana, clove, bitter orange and some grains, followed by a medium long, fairly bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, slightly astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Promising aroma, way too bitter in the taste, fairly unbalanced. Not sure what they tried here, never had such a bitter Weizen.

0.5 l bottle from 'EDEKA Gronemann' (Castrop-Rauxel), best before February 2024. Almost clear, golden with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, gently grassy-spicy, slightly fruity-floral aroma of grains, some fresh grass and a touch of lemon peel. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, quite grassy-spicy and a bit fruity-floral taste of grains, straw and some lemon peel, followed by a short, rather bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite malty but also rather bitter Pils, almost Czech-style. Quite solid.

1 l bottle from 'EDEKA Gronemann' (Castrop-Rauxel), as 'Castroper Dunkel', best before February 2024. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and some hazelnut. Quite sweet, malty, rather roasty, gently bitter taste of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted hazelnut and some licorice, followed by a short, gently roasty-bitter finish. Medium to full body, very smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Lovely dark lager, would rather classify it as Schwarzbier with those pronounced roast flavours though.

Sweetish, gently fruity-floral and a bit grassy aroma of honey, grains, straw, grapefruit and apricot. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite grassy and a bit fruity-floral taste of grains, straw, grapefruit, some honey and light apricot, followed by a short, gently bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Interesting Zwickel, quite hoppy for the style, pleasant mouthfeel as well. Not bad!

Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Good ale, quite chewy for the abv, nicely fresh and sessionable.

Almost medium-bodied, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant ale, definitely sessionable.
