Open the door of the 56 rue Gheude. Cantillon ? That’s the time machine. You’ll leave the modern civilization, goodbye to the noise, goodbye to the world.
"But where are we ?", you will ask yourself. Well, you are in a family brewery where Lambic, Gueuze, Faro and Kriek are made and where nothing has changed since 1900 when it was founded. The Van Roy-Cantillon family welcomes you and invites you to discover a fabulous world. Beers, tools and brewing process are still the same as in the beginning.
Red copper containers, barrels, some of them more than 100 years old, and walls of bottles constitute the scenery for your visit.
Maybe you’ll be lucky to see the brewing or the bottling, maybe you ’ll see how barrels are cleaned or how fruit beers are made in summer. Maybe you’ll be lucky to see the brewing or the bottling, maybe you ’ll see how barrels are cleaned or how fruit beers are made in summer. Anyway, you’ll be able to taste a real traditional Gueuze-Lambic and if you would like to know more about the Kriek or the Framboise, just ask the brewer.
Bottled 75cl Bright, hazy orange. Earthy, sour nose. Mellow, almost "sweet" for Cantillon. Fruity, juicy, excellent lambic. Nothing wrong with a lambic which went wrong :)
Bottled 75 cl, vintage 2000 Chestnut brown, creamy off-white head. Strong aroma of leather and horse blanket. Earthy, tart, lots of "leather flavors". Not so sour than eg. Fou’Foune.
Bottled 75cl, vintage 2003 Pale yellow-orange, no head. Sour nose, fruits and horse blanket in it. Bone dry (it can’t get much drier), same time deliciously fruity. For sure, the best apricot lambic you can get.
Bottled @RBESG’05 Golden color, not much head. Intensive horse blanket aroma. Sour, earthy, berries, very acidy and balanced. Delicious, art of gueuze in its extreme.
Bottled @RBESG’05 Hazy yellow, small white head. Sour, horse blanket aroma. Dry, but not bone dry. Tasty, very foamy body. Authentic and marvellous lambic.
(Labeled 2003, bottled 2005.) Dark golden/orange colour with a slight haze. Ok head. Typical lambic-aroma, maybe a little more subtle than ususal. The taste starts off sourish with a little sweet background but it soon gets reisiny hop bitter, very hop bitter. Quite unusula fot a lambic but I liked it.
