7th April 2014 and we land on Antigua, after a few hours on the beach and drinking this beers big brother we returned to St John’s: the wife decides she wants here nails done, so I neck a green 250ml bottle of this while I wait outside in the sun. We then walk towards the port area and pop into ’Big Banana’ a bar for tourists close too the cruise jetty. It is here that I get another bottle and a glass to drink it out of. I liked it more than the 5.6% Gold that comes in cans, but only just. Not a lot to this typical Caribbean lager/pilsner, it fact it could have been brewed anywhere in the world to be honest. Golden, a little paler than the stronger version but with the same white head. Odourless and nearly tasteless it refreshes the parts that need refreshing without actually giving any flavour or taste. Nice friendly island though, apart from the taxi/tour operators not taking a polite ’no thank you’ as they peddle their trade.

7th April 2014 and our cruise liner docks on Antigua: we hack our way through the taxi and tour hawkers and find the local bus station and get out to Turners Beach where we found OJ’s beach bar, very cool and laid back. It was here I had my first three cans of this refreshing beer. Poured into chilled glass tankards my wife and I sat outside with the sand between our toes enjoying the view and sun. Obviously the location and mood helped to make this a fantastic memory and may well effect the notes I wrote! Anyway the truth is this is a thirst quenching ’bog standard’ lager/pilsner with nothing to set it apart from thousands like it all over the world. Bright, clean and clear golden in colour with a white head. Almost odourless and tasteless, some corn-sweet (not sweetcorn) flavouring. I actually prefered it’s weaker brother out the bottle (which I had twice before rejoining the ship).

Bottle which I verified Tim’s changes to where it was brewed. Poured a clear golden. Aroma was skunky with dirt and cardboard. Taste was similar with cardboard, dirt, and corn. I really wish island breweries would stop using green and clear bottles.

Bottle from local shop, Five Islands, Antigua. Drunk enjoying the views from Fort Barrington. This was grainy with a metallic tang and some undistinguished bitterness towards the finish. Nothing great in any department really. just a thin thirst slaker. This beautiful island surely deserves a better beer, but the green Wadadli is the product to seek out in order out to make things truly blessed.

Brilliantly clear yellow body with a tall, sticky white head. Grassy hop aroma with slight skunk. Not much flavor of any kind. A slight dryness in the finish. Light and refreshing, not much good nor bad about this one. It’s wet. Oh and it’s in a cute little ten ounce green bottle that Suttree will enjoy too!

Can, at Copenhagen Beerfestival. (RB country no 100) A clear, golden beer with a small, white head. Fruity nose with some pale malt sweetness. Sweetish, fruityish flavor with pale malts and some bitterness and alcohol notes. Medium body, rather dryish. Short finish with the flavors found initially, and lacking bitterness. A decent beer, nothing more. Nothing more expected either. (090516)
