Thanks to valpoaj for this bottle - medium gold beer - semi-tart and tannic white wine-like aroma, very light funkiness, light herbs, apple skins - really soft but full carbonation - some light honey character, apples, mild tartness and acidity - white grape tannins that try to balance the sweetness - mild spices and alcohol - the oak is understated but present - another really nice beer from these guys.

750 from valpoaj (thanks, man!), brewed Sept. ’06, bottled Aug. ’07 (I think) - hazy copper beer, with a frothy, lasting head - wonderful, full, complex aroma of leathery, bretty, funky/cheesy qualities, with mild fruit sweetness (cherries, citrus) and acidity hiding underneath (I could have smelled this beer all night) - very soft in the mouth - the flavor is not as sour as the aroma suggests - the leather, brett funk, and cheese character is there, but it takes a back seat to some candi sugar sweetness and some bright fruity character - quite earthy, with a mild lambic-like brininess far in the back - in another year or so this will be phenomenal, but even now it’s awesome - yea...I’m gonna need some more of this.

750ml bottle purchased at Beertopia in Omaha, NE. Bottle 327 of 767 - bottled August 2007 brewed December 2006. Pour is hazy orange with a big fluffy white head which was quite lasting. Even 5 minutes later it was a rocky 2 inch head. Really pretty. Eventually (15 minutes later) the haziness mostly cleared. Aroma of musty citrus, pine and the oak woodiness. The smell was quite "cask" smelling. Taste was initially a bunch of the toasty oakiness, with some buttery butterscotch sweetness. The pine appeared in the middle and closed out the finish with some nice earthy bitterness. The oak is again really strong in the aftertaste, where it takes on a buttery chardonnay like complexity. In terms of an IPA, this was probably lacking, but as a general beer, I thought this was excellent. Really interesting experiment, I liked it!

750 ml bottle (June 07) purchased at Beertopia in Omaha, Nebraska, enjoyed at my Holiday Mini Tasting. Pour is reddish gold with a head that went away fast. Aroma of sweet biscuity malt, and some sweetness. Taste is really sweet, almost to the point of cloying. Some hop brightness to the finish. Not terribly refined, but pretty interesting nonetheless.

500th U.S. beer rating. Bottle from Iowaherkeye, thank you so much Joey. Bottle number 79 out of 272, bottled on 07/06. Color is a very beautiful pinkish hue of ruby red grapefruit juice. No clarity through the beer but a beautiful radiance. Aroma is strong cherry (almost NG Belgian Red- esque) but with lots of strong barnyard sourness. Taste is a sweet barnyard, lower on the sour though than the aroma hints. Long cherry aftertaste. Very good kriek yet unlike any sour traditional beer.

Thanks to beastiefan2k for sharing - bottle 79 of 272 - cloudy pinkish purple beer, with loads of suspended particles of what I assume to be fruit (this beer looks like it’s been tapped from the earth itself) - very earthy, cherry skins and pits in the aroma, with apparent tartness, elements of mineral and soil - the flavor is a gentle, well-balanced combination of whole cherries, wood, light spice, mild funk/sourness, moderate acidity, cobweb/mustiness - an excellent beer.

750ml bottle shared by jjpm74. Poured extremely pale but murky enough to make for medium clarity. Aroma is acidic and sour but there seems to be a weird lactose aspect getting in the way of making this rightly gueuze sour. Taste is similar with just slightly underwhelming sourness and acidity and again this "in the way" other aspect that does not belong there. However, it really seemed like this beer had lots of potential and may overcome this weird thing and complete its sour potential.
