Description
We’re proud to be a small, independent, family-owned business. Our founders Hamish Coates, Mel Holland and Colin Coates have stayed true to this for the entire life of the business.
With no outside investment or intervention, we make decisions based on what’s best for our staff, for our brewery and for the future of our planet.
This means that when it comes to doing the right thing, there are no shareholders or investors to answer to – we can just do it.
We are 100% independent, 100% family owned, and 100% of arguments are won by Ace – the dog!
Our farm and brewery take their name from a natural outcrop of ironstone that runs through the centre of our farm; “Rocky Ridge” perfectly sums up our slice of paradise and ironically sums up the somewhat rocky road that we are on as well.

Can. Unclear pale amber with a white head. 6+ Bold aroma of kumquat, grapefruit peel, breadcrust, greenish mango, some menthol. Pretty much how it tastes. Just a little fumy. Barely medium bodied. A fair bit of bitterness and resin at the end that grips after a time. Delivers.

Can. Black with a tan head that fades from an inch. Aroma of coffee, roast, vinous hints, vanilla (actual, there's no barrel here). Praline-like taste with lots of coffee but enough roast that it doesn't quite dominate. Moderately sweet and fairly bitter at the end. Alcohol is dangerously well hidden. Good.

Aromas of pine, orange peel, biscuit and peach. Big pine taste, plus grapefruit, with a very smooth finish. Just love it.

Aromas of apple, mango, pine, menthol and pineapple. Prominent but relatively soft citrus flavours in the mouth, but it feels like I'm chasing something that's not quite there.

Can. Misted pale gold with a cm of white head. Aroma of pineapple, crackers, some orange, pine. More tropical fruit and some berries in the taste too, but it's less sweet than guessed. Dries out to make the bitterness snap nicely. Good.

Can. Nearly black with a 1/2 cm tan head that's soon a coat. Aroma of roast, liquorice, dark sugars, coffee. Pretty full bodied, moderate carbonation. Tastes pretty much as it smells - quite sweet with dark sugars, liquorice, roast. Not a lot behind and the finish tails off a little. Strong for what if offers.

Press hazy gold, large white head.
Nose shows mango, papaya, musk stick, perfumous notes. Heavy caramel malt notes showing through too.
Flavours are clean and sublime, doesn't show the alcohol. Lots of tropical fruit, grape, pineapple. Clean malt backing with a gentle bitterness in the finish.

Can. Modestly cloudy amber, white head. Aroma of kumquat, gooseberry, pine, breadcrust. I’m guessing more Oz than Kiwi hops but the latter are very distinctive. Dryish with just a little body. Hops don’t overwhelm the breadcrusty malt but signal they will sweep through at the end. Fairly bitter finish. Really good.
