Description
We’re proud to be a small, independent, family-owned business. Our founders Hamish Coates, Mel Holland and Colin Coates have stayed true to this for the entire life of the business.
With no outside investment or intervention, we make decisions based on what’s best for our staff, for our brewery and for the future of our planet.
This means that when it comes to doing the right thing, there are no shareholders or investors to answer to – we can just do it.
We are 100% independent, 100% family owned, and 100% of arguments are won by Ace – the dog!
Our farm and brewery take their name from a natural outcrop of ironstone that runs through the centre of our farm; “Rocky Ridge” perfectly sums up our slice of paradise and ironically sums up the somewhat rocky road that we are on as well.

Can. Pretty much clear amber with a near cm of white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, breadcrust, weeds. Sweet with a touch of biscuit as well as breadcrust, some tropical notes as well as pine and weeds. Firmly bitter but well off dry finish. Cheery bruiser.

Can. Hazy pale orange with a good cm of white head. Aroma of citrus pudding, peach, melon, pineapple, some brooding tropical notes, light bread. Soft and fruity at first with some more savoury notes coming through at the drying, moderately bitter end. Nice complementary flavours.

Can. Just misted golden amber with an inch of white head. Aroma of lime, light biscuit, spices. Rich and smooth with moderate spicy bitterness that lifts any sweetness away. Citrus and some Kiwi-ish berries are not an obvious fit in the aroma but it works fine and the finish is pleasantly decisive.

Can. Murky brownish red with a modest off white head. 6- Aroma of stewed stone fruit - plums, peach - bread, vague citrus. But spicier and more bitterness than expected pull things together upon a taste.

Can. Dark brown with a cm of beige head. Aroma of chocolate, earth, brioche, some roast. Medium sweet with more roast than suggested by the aroma and some citrusy bitterness. The chocolate is a little more subdued. Fair enough.

Can. Pale gold with a loosish white head. Aroma of grapefruit, some berries and pine, crackers. Clean, moderately sweet with more berries than citrus before a little pine at a bitter end that builds a bit. Good quaffer. Amusing that the website description distinguishes a Cali IPA from a West Coast, then the can declares it is a West Coast IPA.

Can. Orange, a good cm of white head lasts OK. Thin weedy and slightly herbal aroma. Clean but empty with little sweetness and weedy bitterness. Competent for the "just a beer" crowd.
