Tap at Bungalow. First kolsch in a while. Pale gold with a low, thick head. Touch of haze. Rich bready malt nose, with lemony hops. Herbal and grassy too. Hoppy for the style. Sweet, lemony, bready. Light and crisp with a nice peppery finish. Decent, though a bit too sweet and estery for the style.

Tap at Komachi. Hazy golden orange with a fine head. Nose is bread and crackers, tropical fruits, oranges, quite juicy. Flavor is slightly funky tropical fruit, ripe, rich, and a touch stinky but lovely. Rich and tasty, their best so far.

Tap at Takumi. 2nd batch, possibly. Glowing copper-orange with light haze. Very lemony nose, light tropical fruit, fresh and fruity. Flavor gives a bit of pine and wood, oranges, a touch of caramel, and bready malts. Clean and crisp and well done.

Tap at Nara Craft Beer Matsuri 2018. Amber-orange, clear. Nose is caramel malt and pumpkin-spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. Flavor is similar. Not very sweet, though, and overall there is a nice balance. A spicy, fun, holiday type of beer that avoids the worst of the pumpkin beers which are overly sweet and too spicy. this is balanced and nice.

Tap at Nara Craft Beer Matsuri 2018. clear golden orange. Lemon, orange, stone fruits, some tropical fruit in the nose. Mango. The Galaxy comes through. Very juicy flavor, orange and mango mostly, nice hops, and the malt is not overly sweet. Tasty stuff.

A bit late in the season but it’s sunny so I’m glad to have the chance to try Nara Brewing’s: Watermelon Head 4% The aroma is soda bread wheat cakes very much a clean wheat beer. The medium body with a raspy carbonic bit delivers quite big watermelon while still having a taste of soda bread malt character. I might want a bit more watermelon in the aroma but taste-wise it’s probably one of the better examples I’ve seen of a watermelon beer.

Nara Brewing Night & Day IPA 5.4% 20 IBU Glowing orange/copper in color with a fruity aroma that has a hefty biscuity element to it. This medium bodied APA has a substantial peppery caramel flavor to it on top of the fruity malts well balanced but I get an almosrye like malt character. Tap at Molto. Nara Brewing Sour Sonic 4.5% IBU 19 Very pale opaque straw gold with a wispy bright white head. It hasa tart eggy and lightly hoppy aroma. The beer is light bodied dry and acidic. The taste is lactic acid, some lemon and restrained toejam. Quite a solid kettle sour.

Tap at Bungalow. Nara Brewing Co. Public Pressure American IPA 6.2% 80 IBU The first beer from Yasunori, ex-home brewer and KBC-Staff. Great pithy citrus/grapefruit hop bouquet, medium bodied to full bodied and smooth. The taste is balanced sweet malts and candies citrus/grapefruit. Super smooth and tasty. Nara Brewing Sweet Inspiration 5% On Nitro at Komachi’s 4th Anniversary Event. It has a nice lightly toasty sweet chocolate aroma. Quite full and velvety in mouthfeel with a somewhat raspy carbonation. The taste is really good and easy to drink semi-sweet roasty dark cocoa. Like a thick bittersweet chocolate paste used for drinking chocolate in the best way possible. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
