Description
We started Carbon Brews in 2018. Since day one, we have been an employee’s-driven brewery that continues to push the boundaries with our innovative beers. Our goal is to use our creative brews to bring excitement to the Hong Kong beer drinkers which they can share with their friends. Our brewery is located in the city’s industrial area Fo Tan (“Tan” is the Cantonese character for “carbon”!) where all of our employees collaboratively develop and brew ground breaking recipes with our 30HL brewhouse.

Tap at 65 Peel, Hong Kong. Poured a hazy straw colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is grainy malt, buttery yeast, mineral, light citrus fruit, dry hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a light, crisp, fresh, citrus fruit, mineral, light dry pepper spice palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Can from Winerack at home in HK after Provence. Clear copper-orange pour with fine sudsy white head. Aroma is leafy orange hops with lager crispness. Taste is bitter, vaguely citrus peel, some grass, light bread and biscuit, slight fruity sweetness. Clean finish. Light palate with light-medium carbonation. Nice IPL. Would get again.

330ml can. Smooth and sweetish with loads of strawberry notes, vanilla, fruits and herbal hops. Interesting but doesn't quite work.

Can from Brewcraft at home at Sofar. Hazy cola brown pour with dissipating light tan head. Kind of like a schwarzbier. Aroma is very saison-y; bright lemon peel, dried apricot, coriander, clove, with some roasted sweet coffee. Taste is sharp earthy bitterness, lemon peel, clove, banana, earthy coffee. Interesting. Bracingly bitter and quite carbonated but not too frothy for me like some saisons. Probably good with roasted vegetables and meats. Slight nutty/coffee vibe is a good twist.

Can from Brewcraft at home after camping. Clear golden pour with sudsy white head. Aroma is fruity hops - tropical mango and pineapple and melon. Not what I expected, but good. Taste carries similar flavor notes of mango and pineapple, some bitterness, but missing a bit of the crisp bite that I expected in a lager. A bit flat overall. So so

Can from Brewcraft at home. Dull/muddy hazy yellow pour with fine white head. Several Carbon Brews beers seem to share this look. Aroma is weizen-y, banana, clove, but also nice tangerine and dankness. Good amount of hoppiness. Taste has strong weizen character, but with big NEIPA-ish juicy citrus hoppiness. Mandarin zest and alcohol finish. Best part is that the palate is light and smooth, not frothy weizen style that I don’t like. A style that’s not my favorite but I like this take - hoppy and boozy. Very drinkable. Would get again and pair with spicy food.

Can from Craftissimo at home. Dull hazy muddy yellow pour with quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is big sweet creamy fruity hops, definitely the meringue/pavlova they aimed for. Alcohol present too. A bit like a tropical beer creamsicle. Taste is similar - more sour and kiwi, a little less creamsicle, but still creamy palate. Bitter and tart. Nice. Lasting zest and some alcohol. Very tasty. A bit muddy but quite interesting. Would probably get again.
