Description
SingleCut Beersmiths was founded by Queens/NYC born, music-obsessed brewer Rich Buceta, whose life-long passions led to a place where hops and vinyl could shine side by side. After years of homebrewing and professional stints around NYC, Rich was true to his dream, diving headfirst into the brewing world. “My obsession is creating original hop-driven beer; distinguished by a firm respect and admiration for West Coast pioneers, and bending that to our East Coast / NYC interpretation.” Since opening in 2012, and with the help of an equally talented and devoted team, SingleCut has gained a loyal following throughout the East-Coast’s most respected markets. With his steadfast determination for the perfect pint, Rich penned "Mastery Knows No Shortcut" as the SingleCut mission statement. “It boils down to always demanding greatness, never compromising, and always play it at maximum volume.”

Fairly hazy yellow and straw golden coloured body with a nice haze and a very thin, single centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of citrus fruit with a bunch of pine and resin notes with seemingly some nice bitterness and alpha acids here with a supportive malt - from the nose at least. Light to Medium-bodied; Fairly hoppy and resinous, piney and grapefruity hop notes show through with a decidedly PNW hop feel that shows some nice bitterness, but enough support from the malts without much sweetness at all, perhaps a dash of the grapefruit peel. Aftertaste shows some rich hoppiness with a lot of pine, resin and floral aspects and some slight nutty and earthy malt flavours at the end that end nicely, and crisp. Overall, an enjoyable IPA that hits more like an older school PNW IPA that is clearly not on the Imperial spectrum (despite what the can might suggest) and is enjoyable, but not something worth going out to try and find. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Wegman's in Alexandria, Virginia on 29-November-2021 for US$1,99 (mixed six pack!) sampled on the streets of Washington while looking at the National Christmas Tree with my family on 12-December-2021.
