Description
Commonwealth Brewing Co was founded as the manifestation of one family’s love for making uncompromising, exceptional beer and sharing the experiences with friends. The spark of inspiration was ignited during a revelatory European brewery and beer hall tour while Jeramy was visiting Natalie, who was traveling (aka wandering) abroad for two years. But it wasn’t until 2013, after years of stove top excellence, beer geekery and a house too full of brewing equipment, that it was time to fully embrace the craft beer lifestyle.
Commonwealth opened Sept 6, 2015 as a result of next level commitment, mild insanity, family, friends and a profound sense of purpose. Since then, we’ve grown into a tight knit band of like minded people who believe beer should be adventurous, diverse, extremely drinkable, and defy boundaries. We honor farmhouse traditions, huge hop American styles, and the complex depths of wild fermentations.
Located inside a fully renovated, former fire and rescue station built in 1962 and nestled in a funky beach cottage community (flip flops mandatory) on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, our facility is complete with a double garage bay tasting room, private event spaces, an outdoor beer garden, and a conditioned barrel cellar housing hundreds of barrels of mixed fermentations for long term aging.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: murky orange color with a thin foamy white head which dissipated mildly to leave super light messy lace
Aroma: pineapple chunks and really sweet; light grassy hops; subtle citrus hop tones and a stiff doughy malt
Flavor: moderately sweet, and seems to have a hard time becoming bittersweet but eventually does then that seems to fade as it never fully seems to get to where it needs to be; mild aftertaste of doughy malts and pineapples
Texture: medium bodied; between being sessionable and being a sipper; semi-smooth along my tongue; finishes semi-crisp
Overall: hmmmmm, it's alright but I've had many better NEDIPA's. I'd want again if the recipe was tweaked.

Can to becher pint glass.
Appearance: hazy burnt yellow color with a two finger white foamy head which dissipated at a nice pace to leave some mild messy lace
Aroma: tropical fruity, floral and semi-grassy hoppiness with a clean doughy malt
Flavor: fairly bittersweet - maybe a touch more leaning towards the bitter with the prior noted aromas; mild aftertaste of the tropical fruits and floral hops
Texture: medium bodied with some sessionability about it, some smoothness but also with a little bit of hop spice harshness; keen finish of smooth tropical hoppiness and doughy malts
Overall: nice enough NEIPA, I believe I could come back to.

Sharp lemon peel and some sour lemon. Initial smell is rich but flavour in mouth comes out a bit off. Pours murky yellow with decent head. Cloying sour lime finish. Tap at Dominion.

16oz can. Poured a very hazy orange color with a small off-white/orange head. Aroma was huge tropical fruits, pineapple, and big coconut. Nice light tartness, but more sweet than tart. Flavor was tropical fruit pineapple, coconut, oranges. Tasty.

(Draft at Billie's Bier Kafétaria, Antwerpen, 18 Sep 2025) Black colour with brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of sweet espresso, dark chocolate, vanilla and ripe banana. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with espresso, dark chocolate, vanilla, peanuts and a balanced cacao bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. On the sweet side, but rich, tasty and warming. Great balance for its strength. Great beer!
