Description
Commonwealth Brewing Co was founded as the manifestation of one family’s love for making uncompromising, exceptional beer and sharing the experiences with friends. The spark of inspiration was ignited during a revelatory European brewery and beer hall tour while Jeramy was visiting Natalie, who was traveling (aka wandering) abroad for two years. But it wasn’t until 2013, after years of stove top excellence, beer geekery and a house too full of brewing equipment, that it was time to fully embrace the craft beer lifestyle.
Commonwealth opened Sept 6, 2015 as a result of next level commitment, mild insanity, family, friends and a profound sense of purpose. Since then, we’ve grown into a tight knit band of like minded people who believe beer should be adventurous, diverse, extremely drinkable, and defy boundaries. We honor farmhouse traditions, huge hop American styles, and the complex depths of wild fermentations.
Located inside a fully renovated, former fire and rescue station built in 1962 and nestled in a funky beach cottage community (flip flops mandatory) on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, our facility is complete with a double garage bay tasting room, private event spaces, an outdoor beer garden, and a conditioned barrel cellar housing hundreds of barrels of mixed fermentations for long term aging.

No idea how long I've had this can for but it's been a minute. Bought it for my wife, who barely drinks beer, so I buy her barely beers. This tastes like everything on the can--raspberry, nutmeg, cranberry, light cinnamon. Pours hazy pinkish orange with ok head. Sweet and light bitter nutmeg finish. Not my favourite mix of their vast fruit goes series.

a: chunky & hazy bright orange body | thinnish tan head
a: dank | juice | bright stone fruits
f: deep mangoes (duh!) | rich oats | tart finish
t: squeezed lemons | soft brine | malt ending
o: refreshing | super fruity | true-to-name (this is seemingly just a juice - doesn't taste like alcohol here!)

Big grapefruit zest here. Pours dark orange amber with great head--Commonwealth's cans always have better head retention than their taps. Good West Coast pale ale like Snowball. Light hitter5end. Pleasant and well rounded for style. Easy drinking. Can from Fairfax brewery.

Cherry mostly and a little lime. The tea doesn't come through very evident for me. Maybe a hint more bitter than Commonwealth's usual fruited gose formula. Pours red. Sweet finish with some cherry tang. Tap at brewery.

Roast, hazelnut and dark chocolate. Vanilla isn't super evident here. Pours oily black without head like most of their stouts. This one is a little more balanced and dialed back, though. Barrel is well integrated. Bittersweet finish but more on the sweet side. Tap at Fairfax location.

Solid balance on this. Cherry is lightly applied, some florals. A little plum, tobacco. Pours orange amber with decent head and good lacing. Light tangy sweet end but finish is clean and short. Tap at brewery in Fairfax.

Green onion and some chalkiness, old hay. Pours murky yellow orange with ok lacing. Some astringency in the finish, bark. A little green onion. Least favourite of three hazy DIPAs I had today from them. Mostly that chalky texture throws me off. Tap at brewery.

Really solid balance on this one. Guava, grape--I'm surprised the watermon adds any personality to this amidst these stronger flavoured sour fruits. Pours hazy pink with ok head. Sweet and fruit tangy finish but mostly sweet. Tap at Fairfax taproom.

Not a ton of huge smell initially but this takes off in the mouth. Grapefruit and a hint of suntan lotion from the sabro. I usually hate sabro but it is well hidden at least in this beer. Pours murky yellow without much head. Orange peel. Light green onion on finish. Tap at brewery in Fairfax.
