Description
Trapezium Brewing Co. takes its name from the iconic Trapezium House, just a few blocks to the west of our tap room and 30 barrel production facility. The historic building is a quirky three-story structure built with no right angles, and through the years all sort of stories and superstitions have been assigned to it. We see it as a metaphor — it’s a quirky building in a quirky town, where doing things differently usually gets the best results. Trapezium Brewing distributes it four core beers — White Ale, IPA, Session IPA, and our unique Lemon Honey Ginger — from Fredericksburg to the NC border, and from Charlottesville to the coast, and of course at our taproom in Old Town Petersburg, VA.

Pretty hazy golden coloured body with a thick-ish three centimetre tall off-white head that fades very quickly and barely leaves anything on top after a few seconds and nothing on the sides. Aroma of soured, funky, bretty and especially lactobilly yeast with some light strawberries and raspberries along with a dry bit of lemon rind and ending with a grassy and floral bite at the end - nice and complex in the nose. Medium-bodied; Strong rich fruity notes show at first with pears, apples, apricots, peaches and some berries here, but the wheatie and slightly grainy malt notes are pungent here with a lot of tartness, but the yeast complexities seem to dominate, especially at the end. Aftertaste is rich and full with a lot of fruits here, some additional sweetness from caster or even icing sugar and some complexity from the lactobilly funk with some soured qualities throughout - nice and robust throughout without a clear definition of the style intended here, but flavourful throughout. Overall, a nice enough beer with some good fruit notes, but a sort of complexity in terms of what they were trying to brew here and what style this really is, but it at least does have flavours, it isn't cloying or pungent and is fairly complex throughout. This was nice to sample, but what was it?!? I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Arlington (Ballston), Virginia on 26-February-2021 for US$4,49 sampled at my house here in Washington on 27-May-2022.
