In 2000, Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan founded the 21st Amendment Brewery in San Francisco’s historic South Park neighborhood. The popular brewpub is now at the heart of the new city center, just south of the financial district and only two blocks from the San Francisco Giants baseball park. In addition to rotating taps of multiple award-winning hand-crafted house beers,

Can. Tangerine aroma with notes of orange, stone fruit, grapefruit, pineapple and pine resiny hops. Pours clear golden colored with a large off white head that has excellent retention and lacing. Starts with stone fruit, pineapple and tangerine flavors. Finishes dry with orange, grapefruit and pine resiny hop flavors as well as some bitterness. Decent.

Can. Bright blood Orange citrus aroma with notes of tangerine, grapefruit, floral hops and light pine resin. Pours clear golden-orange colored with a finger of off white head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with juicy blood orange, tangerine and floral hop flavors. Finishes smooth but a touch dry with grapefruit and pine resiny hop flavors as well as more orange citrus at the end. Pretty nice.

Can to becher glass.
Appearance: golden yellow to orange color with a nice one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice moderate pace to leave some light lace.
Aroma: super sweet oranges which seem to be leaning towards artificial - the Brew Free or Die IPA itself seems fairly drowned out by the artificial oranges
Flavor: not as bittersweet as the OG because now the artifical oranges dominate and lead into the finish
Texture: still light to medium like the OG, still sessionable, still good carb about it
Overall: I wonder if the people who started 21st Amendment back in the day ever wonder about the sacrifice of using artificial products to appease the masses rather than brew a real beer at smaller quantities with real ingredients. Weird how things work anymore.

Can to becher glass.
Appearance: bronzed yellow color with a sly transparency to it, thin white cap of a foamy head which slid off to barely leave any lace
Aroma: light sweet grains, some corn, grassiness and a pinch of lime
Flavor: copies the aroma fairly sweet with a little bit lime underneath; finishes sweet corn and grainy like with the lime barely there
Texture: light bodied, definitely sessionable, some smoothness
Overall: I'd say it does the trick and would be a nice grill side beer.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 30C: with spices and cocoa nibs). Can 35.5 cl - Batch 2175SD 17 (BB: undeclared). AROMA: medium spice aroma (cinnamon, slight ginger, cardamom) with medium-low toasty malt (with slight toasted bread crust). low pine hops background. APPEARANCE: dark amber color and clear. medium-low beige to light brown head, creamy, with good retention. lace formation. TASTE: medium-low to low spices (cinnamon, slight ginger) with low hops (pine). medium-low malt flavor (toasty, slight bread crust). medium-high bitterness with a semi-dry to dry and bitter finish that persists. MOUTHFEEL: medium-low body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a winter ale-type beer with soft notes and with a bit too much bitterness.

Can purchased at Key Market in Redwood City. Have not visited this beer in over a decade. Remember loving it when it came out. This pours dark and clear. Color is deep garnet brown with dense, light brown head that lingers throughout the pour. Aroma of spice and chestnut. Flavor is brown roasted malt, overt caramel, and a slight burnt finish. Bumping the score up some points for how I remember it and how I remember the brewery. I will pick some 21-As up when I see them over the next weeks or month. This was my local for a number of years in SF from 2006-2010, and I miss and loved the good times there. Sad to see them go, and what a great run for Nico, Sean and the whole crew.
