01/07/22 Single from Whole Foods. New Belgium goblet. Dark brown with red hues. Syrupy. Lingering lace. Sticky malt nose. Christmas spice. Coffee. Well spiced, solid bitterness, burnt caramel, too sweet. Lingering tea. Oxidized peanut. Big, burning carbonation drops off really fast. Booze creeps in as it warms. Meh.

Pounder from Appalachian. Fridge sleep, pint glass @home. Orange-amber tea pour, just a bit jellied. Creamy, tall head. Open, tea & dry biscuit, mildly astringent, herbal nose. Taste is softly biscuit sweet, deeply malted for a second with tea smoke, then turns very astringent with an Aspirin & herbal bite that lingers & leans into the acidity. Weak carb & a slight body. Wanted something crisper & less harsh.

Pint can, courtesy of MicroGrog, pours with a deep dark black void of a body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up reduced sugars, hints of dates and figs, chocolate, burnt malts and a sliver of two of rum barrel character. The taste is intense and deep with nicely integrated flavours coming from every directions. I get an initial wave of chocolate and dark roasted malts quickly picking up caramel and smooth sweet dark fruity esters. Into the finish faint barrel character meet up with a fair amount of booziness to help create some balance to all the depth and richness. Great sipper.

Nonic pint draft at Town Brewing in Charlotte, North Carolina. The pour is golden with a bunch of fine carbonation building up a one inch white head. The aroma is faint soft cracker malt, with a bit of grassy hop. The taste is super fresh, really nice and clean with a good balance between the grassy hop and the clean cereal cracker malt. The palate is light bodied with active carbonation and the clean mineral finish. Really easy drinking, I loved this.

Somewhat mild citrusy hops with a little stone fruit. Add in some bittersweet and medicinal in the finish. Nothing special here folks move along.
