Nova Session IPA from Drop-In Brewing Company

Draught at the brewery and a growler (shared in the car 15 minutes later) on 2/7/14
Pale gold body with plentiful white head, high clarity and good retention.
Heavily floral hoppiness in the nose is delightfully fragrant, without any heavy acids but is still quite assertive. Malts are lightly bready in the background and no alcohol or flaws are noted.
A firm texture really makes this feel a lot stronger or bigger than it is, not in a bad way, just dosent seem like youre drinking a session beer. Still, the hoppiness is crisp, citric/floral and with a fair amount of bitterness building up on the end. The dextrinous body evolves with some honey-like maltiness but the strong carbonation keeps it from ever getting any where close to not incredibly sessionable. Nice to feel like youre drinking an IPA when youre actually not getting all the alcohol. That seems to be the point of this style, no? Mission accomplished.

Very pale straw-golden body has a chill haze to it and sports a slight white head with medium-low retention.
Saaz hops are certainly spicy but are probably outdone, slightly, by the rich maltiness in the nose. Not that it’s sugary or overdone, just quite prevalent. A touch of tartness and light minerals, with warm baked bread-like notes as it warms, emerging. No alcohol or flaws.
The flavor is impressively yeasty and malty, in a good way. Lots of mineral character, with some acidity blending with the richer honey notes to create quite an authentic experience. Texture was a little bit softer than I’d like, probably due to the malt and I could even appreciate a little more hop bite on the end. As is, though, it’s a fantastic example. Nice to see this in the middle of nowhere.

Sunshine and Hoppiness from Drop-In Brewing Company

Lovely bright dandelion flower-yellow body is topped by a foamy white head showing good retention. High clarity and plenty of carbonation.
Very hop-forward nose shows off bright citrus and plenty of floral notes. Leafy and fresh, with not too much acidity and a touch of earthiness. Light Belgian esters in the background mix with the hops to provide some tropical fruit-like notes and overall it’s quite a strong aroma for such a seemingly unassuming little beer. No alcohol noted.
Crisp in the mouth with some assertive, yet well-attenuated biscuit-like maltiness leading to the citric hoppiness and all balanced by the tight carbonation giving a nearly creamy palate. Plentiful esters add depth, but it’s not chalk full of them; they obviously didnt just let this thing rip through primary. A touch of pleasant earthiness from the yeast or hops? Very nice.
