From a friend: pours pale yellow with a white head. Aroma is grainy bread. Taste is a grainy, sweet lager. Nothing really great, but good enough.

Draft (14 oz.) crustal clear. Pretty much what they say, aroma and flavor is a mirror. Lager yeast, weak malt, and a mild skunky note. Thin, flimsy body. Yep, 50’s pilsner no doubt!!

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Andover Liquors. Appearance is very dark brown--almost opaque--with no sparkle, finger-width fizzy light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted/smoky malts (bordering on ash), some coffee and hints of chocolate. Taste is burnt malts, resin bitterness, earth. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and burnt, bitter finish. Overall, too burnt and bitter for me.

Draught at The Haven, 4/14/17.
Dark cocoa-ebony body seems to have some clarity at least around the edges. Tan head atop shows moderate retention.
Chocolate, light toffee, molasses and earthy, almost lightly smoke notes do not get too bitter/burnt/acrid and the base malt is felt, albeit lightly, adding light caramel character for balance. Moderate fruitiness, as well, deepens complexity.
Quite dry and very light-bodied bordering on thin. A touch more malt suppleness would work wonders here. Lots of dark fruit, molasses and bitter cocoa with light caramel on the finish. Somewhat loose, unfocused carbonation, as their beers tend to have, detracts from the experience.
