Description
Yes Brewing officially came into existence on July 1st, 2017, but the inspiration for the brewery came much earlier. Head Brewer John “Bigs” Bigelow, an avid home brewer for nearly two decades, had a lifelong goal of owning and operating his own brewery. While experimenting in his garage, he developed a variety of unique, alternative recipes that he felt the world needed to try. Some early highlights included a mint IPA (now known as “Yes PLZ”), jalapeno pale ale that wasn’t that spicy (“Fear Not”), a dry-hopped kettle sour (“Neon Cowboy”), and many, many others. With hundreds of total recipes and concepts, Bigs was ready to take the next step.

Brothers Troy and Brady Frost came into the fold in fall of 2016. Upon meeting with John (and drinking a lot of beer), they agreed that his recipes and brewing style were unique. After a bit of research (and more beer), they decided to team up with John, hoping to make his dream a reality. With their ownership group intact, the name “Yes Brewing” was attached as a placeholder, but ended up sticking once they realized the name had never been federally trademarked (“Yes!”). Equipped with an 80s/90s aesthetic, and after a year of renovations, negotiations, and licensing requirements, a minimally self-funded brewery was born in Westbrook, Maine.

As the brewery grows, the company is committed to retaining its initial passion towards making experimental, challenging beer. In year one, over 30 different beer varieties were released. In the coming years, Yes Brewing will be focusing on sours, barrel aging, wide ranging adjuncts, and collaborations. The loyal patrons of Yes Brewing enable us to keep striving to create new and interesting things, hopefully for many years to come.

Can pour (upside down label--intentional?) from trade with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! It's an opaque, slightly murky, medium brown (almost like cider) with light sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width off-white foamy head with fair retention and no lacing. Aroma is light fermented tart and sweet fruit, mild banana, grainy base. Taste follows aroma with strongly sweet, though nondescript, fruit (perhaps with some banana, melon and apple) and sweet grain backbone. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, despite high ABV, enough hops to cover it up so no hint of alcohol. Would never guess Mosaic was in here, though. This certainly isn't like every other DIPA out there right now so that's kind of good, but can't tell if this is intentional or a failure in execution. Like most sequels, perhaps not as good as the original. Wonder what Brook Ones Part 1 is like? First exposure to the brewer and wouldn't say No in the future.

16 oz. can. Color is a deep golden straw. Aroma is old orange juice, mild floral, and mild booze. Flavor shows light citrus, soft floral, and brewers yeast. Considering the strength the booze is kind of hidden. Shows no bitterness. It is alright.

So the brewer hadn't named this beer because he only made one keg of it, but of course Untappd named it. Made from foraged wild grapes using only the yeast that was on the grape skins. Clear pinkish red. Dusty grape aroma. Taste is lightly sour earthy grapes. Tasty. And happy anniversary!
